Mountain View, Calif. -- Silver Ridge Power, which is building a major solar plant in Southern California, announced that Google will invest $103 million in the company. The investment will be used to support Silver Ridge's Mount Signal Solar project, a utility-scale solar generating plant under construction in Imperial County, Calif. The project is expected to be fully operational in 2014 and will sell its output to the San Diego Gas & Electric Company. This marks Google's thirteenth renewable energy investment. o San Francisco-based Level Raises $5 Million in First Round

San Francisco -- Level, a San Francisco-based developer of mobile financial services apps, announced that it has raised $5 million in its first round of venture capital, which was led by New Enterprise Associates. Level's applications provide instant reads on a user's financial "health," which the company says "eliminates the need for budgets." The company also just unveils its first product, Level Money, a free app designed for the Millennial generation, which the company says turns an iPhone into a "real-time money meter." Commenting in the announcement, Frank Yeary, chairman and co-founder of Level, said, "Gen Y faces many very real financial challenges, and they are confronting these challenges far earlier than before. Today two-thirds of college graduates owe an average of more than $25,000 in student loans, and underemployment rates for young adults remain way too high. In that environment, everyday financial choices are more important than ever." Other investors in the company's new funding round include former Citigroup Chairman and CEO Sandy Weill, former FCC Chairman Reed Hundt and former Barclays Global Investors CEO Blake Grossman.
