Cupertino, Calif. -- Bromium, a Cupertino-based developer of micro-virtualization technology designed to protect businesses from advanced malware, said on Wednesday it has raised $40 million in its third round of funding, led by new investor Meritech Capital Partners. Previous backers Andreessen Horowitz, Ignition Partners, Highland Capital Partners and Intel Capital also participated in the round, which the company will use to bolster product development and accelerate sales in North America, Japan and the EMEA and APAC regions. "We have doubled revenue each quarter this year and now plan to accelerate our international expansion and strengthen our development team," said co-founder and CEO Gaurav Banga. Bromium counts the NYSE, BlackRock and ADP among its clients.

o Vigilent Relocates Headquarters to Downtown Oakland

Oakland -- Vigilent, a technology firm that uses artificial intelligence to help data centers increase their energy efficiency, said on Wednesday it has relocated its headquarters from El Cerrito to the I. Magnin Building in downtown Oakland. The move doubles the company's square footage, while also adding infrastructure and amenities. "With growing recognition as an emerging high-tech hotspot and access to a large base of technology professionals, Oakland is the perfect launching pad for our continued growth," said CEO Mark Housley. "And it didn’t hurt that our new building is literally green." Vigilent will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony, presided over by Oakland Mayor Jean Quan, on Nov. 7.

Palo Alto, Calif. -- North Bridge Growth Equity, a venture capital firm with dual headquarters in Palo Alto and Massachusetts, on Wednesday announced the final closing of its second fund with over $580 million in commitments. The fund, known as North Bridge Growth Equity II, will invest primarily in technology companies that are entrepreneur owned and managed, and have grown to tens of millions in revenue with little or no outside capital. The firm, which now has $1.1 billion under management, is led by general partners Matt Blodgett, Doug Kingsley, Mike Pehl and Russ Pyle. Recent investments include Proto Labs, RuffaloCODY and SmartPak.
