San Francisco -- Arrayent, a San Francisco-based developer of virtualization technology for the "Internet of Things," said on Tuesday it has raised $11.9 million in its second round of funding, led by DCM Ventures. Intel Capital also took part in the round, which the company will use for growth. "This latest round of funding will allow us to expand our platform and continue to grow our customer base within strategic global markets," said founder and CEO Shane Dyer. Arrayent's platform lets companies build a range of compatible connected products, which let users control home appliances with a single smart phone app. Customers include Whirlpool, Pentair, First Alert and Chamberlain.

o Mountain View-Based Scanadu Raises $10.5 Million in First Round

Mountain View, Calif. -- Scanadu, a Mountain View-based developer of personalized health electronics devices, said on Tuesday it has raised $10.5 million in its first round of funding, led by Relay Ventures. Tony Hsieh's VegasTechFund, Jerry Yang's Ame Cloud Ventures and other investors also participated in the round, which will support the company's go-to market strategy and manufacturing. It also plans to expand its staff. Scanadu, which now has raised $14.7 million since its inception, is developing a line of devices, starting with a vital sign monitor that analyzes and tracks a user's temperature, respiratory rate, oximetry, ECG and blood pressure in 10 seconds. The company is also creating a disposable urine analysis testing platform that works with smartphones to offer a complete urine analysis test in minutes.

San Jose, Calif. -- 8x8, a San Jose-based developer of cloud communications and collaboration tools, said it will pay $18.4 million in cash to acquire Voicenet Solutions, which provides cloud business telephony and communications services in the U.K. The deal is expected to close by the end of the year. "The acquisition of Voicenet clearly demonstrates the execution of our international expansion strategy as well as our move upmarket,” said CEO Vik Verma. "Voicenet provides 8x8 with an excellent opportunity to replicate in Europe the successful, profitable SaaS communications and collaboration business we've built in North America."
