San Francisco -- Rocket Fuel, the Redwood City-based developer of a media-buying platform that uses artificial intelligence to improve the success of ad campaigns, is the No. 1-ranked company in the newly released Deloitte Technology Fast 500, an annual ranking of the fastest growing technology, media, telecom, life sciences and clean technology companies in North America. Winners were selected based on their percentage of fiscal year revenue growth from 2008-2012. Rocket Fuel, which raised $116 million in its initial public offering (IPO) in September, topped the list with revenue growth of 208,897%. Other Bay Area companies near the top include Milpitas-based FireEye (No. 6), Cupertino-Based BlueKai (No. 12), Petaluma-based Enphase Energy (No. 14) and San Francisco-based Kamam (No. 17). o San Jose-Based Xangati Names New CEO Following Funding Round

San Jose, Calif. -- One week after announcing $11 million in funding, San Jose-based Xangati, a developer of cloud and workload performance management tools, on Wednesday named Sundi Sundaresh as its president and CEO. Sundaresh, the former president and CEO of Adaptec, Candera and Jetstream Communications, had served as an advisor to the company since early this year. He succeeds founder Jagan Jagannathan, who had been serving as acting CEO. Jagannathan will remain in his role as CTO. The news follows last week's funding round, which was led by HighBar Partners with participation from Citrix. Founded in 2006, Xangati is a developer of technology designed to proactively detect and correct IT performance bottlenecks. Clients include eBay, Comcast, British Gas, Guess, Colliers International, Univita Health, Harvard University and the U.S. Army.

o Santa Clara-Based Chegg Prices IPO; Stock Falls 22%

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Shares of Santa Clara-based Chegg fell 22% on their first day of trading Wednesday, hours after the provider of online study tools and textbooks priced its initial public offering (IPO), which is expected to raise $187.5 million. The offering, which valued Chegg at nearly $1.1 billion, includes 15 million shares -- all but 600,000 being sold by the company -- for $12.50 each, higher than the company's expectations of $9.50-$11.50. Shares, trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "CHGG," closed Wednesday at $9.77. Chegg's platform, which it calls the Student Hub, offers products and services targeting college students. The company's core textbook offering features approximately 180,000 print titles for rent, as well as 100,000 titles available electronically.

o San Jose-Based Quorum Raises $10 Million, Names Interim CEO

San Jose, Calif. -- Quorum, a San Jose-based developer of backup, recovery and continuity tools for businesses, said it has raised $10 million in its third round of funding, led by Toba Capital. Airtek Capital Group and angel investors also participated in the round, which will be used to expand sales and marketing activities. The company also has named Walter Angerer, a venture partner at Toba Capital, as its interim CEO, Angerer previously served as a senior vice president and general manager at Quest Data Protection, and also held a number of positions at Symantec. He succeeds Larry Lang.

o Belmont-Based Selligy Lands $2.8 Million in First Round

Belmont, Calif. -- Selligy, a Belmont-based developer of mobile tools designed to help salespeople, said on Wednesday it has raised $2.8 million in its first round of funding, led by Draper Fisher Jurvetson (DFJ). Alchemist Accelerator, salesforce.com and several angel investors also participated in the round, which the company will use to accelerate the rollout of its mobile CRM tool for enterprises, develop support for other mobile platforms and scale up company operations. Josh Stein, managing partner at DFJ, will serve on the company's board of directors. "Even though salespeople have broadly adopted mobile devices, enterprises are still flying blind when it comes to what's really working for salespeople out in the field," said Nilay Patel, the company's co-founder and CEO "Selligy’s vision is to make both salespeople and sales teams more effective by building mobile tools that help salespeople with their selling activities."
