Air Liquide Investments in the future And Demonstration (ALIAD) and several individuals also took part. Terrajoule, which received its initial investment from NEA in 2009, counts Arno Penzias, a venture partner at NEA and former Nobel Prize winner, among its advisors. The company said its core energy storage technology, which is based on pressurized saturated water, solves the fundamental problem of intermittent supply of solar and wind power. The company, which now has raised $13 million since its inception, said it will use the latest financing to bolster the core capabilities of its service, which currently has more than 1,000 paying customers. The service is currently available over public clouds such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Windows Azure, as well as platform-as-a-service providers such as Heroku and AppFog.
