The company plans to expand encryption across its services, reinforce legal protections for customer data and enhance the transparency of its software code. "We are taking steps to ensure governments use legal process rather than technological brute force to access customer data," the company wrote in a blog post. The move, and a recent similar move by Yahoo, follows reports about the NSA secretly tracking the data of Internet users. "If true, these efforts threaten to seriously undermine confidence in the security and privacy of online communications," wrote Microsoft. "Indeed, government snooping potentially now constitutes an `advanced persistent threat,' alongside sophisticated malware and cyber attacks." http://blogs.technet.com/b/microsoft_blog/archive/2013/12/04/protecting-customer-data-from-government-snooping.aspx _____________________________________________ o San Francisco-Based Twitter Names First Woman to Board San Francisco -- Twitter, the San Francisco-based social networking giant, on Thursday added the first woman to its board, naming Marjorie Scardino as a director.
