o Menlo Park-Based DCM Closes New $330 Million Tech Fund

Menlo Park, Calif. -- DCM, the Menlo Park-based venture capital focused on early-stage technology companies, said on Thursday it has closed a new $330 million fund. The fund, known as DCM Fund VII, will continue the firm's strategy of investing in early-stage mobile, digital media, ecommerce and consumer and enterprise services companies in the U.S., China and Japan. "We're positioned extremely well for the next technology cycle as transformative forces like the Internet of things and global mobile adoption accelerate opportunities on both sides of the Pacific Rim," said general partner Jason Krikorian. DCM now has more than $2.5 billion under management.

o Palo Alto-Based Flipboard Acquires Zite from CNN

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Flipboard, the Palo Alto-based developer of a social magazine app, said it has acquired Zite, developer of a competing news reader app for Apple and Android devices, from owner CNN. Though financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, Fortune reported that Flipboard paid more than the $20 million that CNN had paid for Zite in 2011. Flipboard said it plans to integrate Zite's personalization technology and recommendation engine, and also has forged a multifaceted partnership with CNN, designed to help the cable network expand its mobile reach. Reports surfaced in November that Flipboard was raising another $50 million in funding, just two months after it secured $50 million at a reported $800 million valuation,

o Price-Fixing Settlement Could Mean Windfall for Electronics Consumers

San Francisco -- Anyone who purchased electronic equipment such as computers, printers, DVD players and video game consoles between 1998-2002 could be in for a windfall under a new $310 million price fixing settlement. The case, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleges that 12 manufacturers of DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) chips, including Samsung, Micron, Hynix, Infineon and NEC, artificially inflated prices, forcing consumers to overpay for products. No documentation is required to file claims, which can be made at the link below by Aug. 1.
