The same investors also led the company's inaugural $6.2 million round in 2012. The UPS is a regulatory pathway that directs protein degradation, vital to the healthy life of a cell, and presents therapeutic opportunities in disease areas such as oncology. Mark Gallop, Nurix's chief scientific officer, said the company's platform has the potential to enhance or inhibit protein degradation. "This may allow us to promote the degradation of oncogenes or protect naturally occurring tumor suppressors from being destroyed in the cell," said Gallop. http://www.nurix-inc.com http://www.nurix-inc.com/pdfs/Nurix_Launch_PR_FINAL_051914.pdf (PDF) _____________________________________________ o S.F.-Based Carrick Capital Partners Takes Majority Stake in Procura San Francisco -- Carrick Capital Partners, a San Francisco-based investment firm, said it has made a majority investment in Procura, a Canadian developer of healthcare software. The suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, seeks an unspecified amount of damages. ZeniMax alleges that it created Oculus' core technology, which it provided to the California-based company through a binding non-disclosure agreement. It said Oculus now continues to use the technology without authorization. "[Oculus founder Palmer] Luckey has held himself out to the public as the visionary developer of virtual reality technology, when in fact the key technology Luckey used to establish Oculus was developed by ZeniMax," ZeniMax said in a statement. http://www.zenimax.com http://www.zenimax.com/press/ZeniMax_Media_Inc._and_id_Software_LLC_File _Suit_Against_Oculus_VR_Inc._and_its_Founder_Palmer_Luckey _____________________________________________ o Report: U.S. Information Technology Pros Saw Modest Pay Increases San Francisco -- U.S. information technology professionals saw their salaries rise modestly over the past year, with staffers making median compensation of $92,000 and managers $120,000, according to a new report from InformationWeek. The report also found that faith in IT careers has rebounded, with nearly half of staffers believing the path is more promising than it was five years ago, a 15% jump from 2011. A gender gap persists, however, with male staffers making about 16% more than females; and male managers making about 11% more.
