o S.F.-Based Prosper Marketplace Raises $70 Million in New Funding

San Francisco -- Prosper Marketplace, the San Francisco-based operator of an online peer-to-peer lending platform, said on Monday it has raised $70 million in a new round of funding, led by Francisco Partners. Institutional Venture Partners (IVP) and Phenomen Ventures also took part in the round, which comes just seven months after the company raised $25 million in a round led by Sequoia Capital. The news comes during a period of impressive growth for the company, which has seen monthly platform originations grow from $9 million in Jan. 2013 to over $100 million in April, and last month crossed $1 billion in total loans originated. "Financially, Prosper Marketplace is in a very solid place and this capital will be used to expand the business, advance our technology and hire the very best talent," said CEO Aaron Vermut. David Golob of Francisco Partners will join the company's board of directors.

o Thoma Bravo Closes New $3.65 Billion Technology Fund

San Francisco -- Thoma Bravo, the San Francisco- and Chicago-based private equity firm, said on Monday it has closed its latest fund at $3.65 billion, significantly over its initial target of $2.5 billion. The fund, known as Thoma Bravo Fund XI, will continue the firm's focus on the software and technology enabled services sectors. Managing partners include Orlando Bravo, Seth Boro, Scott Crabill, Lee Mitchell, Holden Spaht and Carl Thoma; along with partner Robert Sayle. Thoma Bravo previously raised $1.7 billion for its Fund X, which began investing in early 2012, as well as a supplemental fund. The firm began raising its newest fund in January.

Walnut Creek, Calif. -- YapStone, the Walnut Creek-based developer of a web-based and mobile payments platform, on Monday named Kelly Kay to the newly created role of president and COO. Kay, who most recently served as the company's general counsel and head of risk, now will be responsible for overseeing the operational aspects of the company. She previously held senior roles with MasterCard, eBay and PayPal, and was deputy general counsel of The Wikimedia Foundation. Founded in 1999, YapStone received a $50 million investment from Accel Partners and Meritech Capital Partners in 2011.

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Intel, the Santa Clara-based chip-making giant, on Monday tabbed Steven Fund as its corporate vice president and CMO, responsible for the company's marketing strategy, brand management, product positioning, advertising and communications. He will join Intel June 2. Fund most recently served as the senior vice president of global marketing at Staples, and previously led the expansion of the Gillette Fusion product at Procter and Gamble. "As our industry and our business is changing, we need to change the way we develop, build and market our products, and Steve is going to be a key asset for us as we move forward," said CEO Brian Krzanich.

o Global Semiconductor Industry Posts Highest-Ever Q1 Sales

Washington, DC -- The global semiconductor industry posted its highest-ever first-quarter sales during the first three months of 2014, according to new figures from the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). Worldwide sales of semiconductors reached $78.47 billion during the period, including $26.16 billion in March, up more than 11% from the prior year. "The global semiconductor market has demonstrated consistent momentum in recent months, and sales are well ahead of last year's pace through the first quarter of 2014," said Brian Toohey, president and CEO of the SIA. "Perhaps most impressively, sales in March increased across all regions and every semiconductor product category compared to last year."
