o Invoice2go Raises $35 Million, Opens Palo Alto Office

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Invoice2go, the Australian developer of a mobile app designed to help small businesses manage cash flow, said on Tuesday it has raised $35 million in its first round of funding from Accel Partners and Ribbit Capital, and opened a new U.S. office in Palo Alto. The company also has appointed Greg Waldorf, a CEO-in-Residence at Accel Partners, as its new CEO. The company said it will use the proceeds to expand its employee base internationally and bolster product development and marketing activities. Waldorf is the former CEO of eHarmony, and was lead director at real estate site Trulia, in addition to his time with Accel. Invoice2go was founded in 2002 by Australian developer Chris Strode, who will continue to spearhead product development from the company's Sydney office. The company's app, which includes invoicing, expense tracking and reporting tools, is now used by more than 100,000 customers, accounting for more than $10 billion of invoicing volume annually.

o S.F.-Based Gametime Lands $4 Million from High-Profile Investors

San Francisco -- Gametime, the San Francisco-based developer of a mobile platform for last-minute access to sporting events, said on Tuesday it has raised $4 million in a new round of funding, led by Accel Partners. Other participants included Jeff Mallett, a principal partner of the San Francisco Giants, co-owner of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Derby County FC and former founding president and COO of Yahoo; and Vivek Ranadive, the founder and CEO of Tibco and owner of the Sacramento Kings. Sam Shank, the co-founder and CEO of HotelTonight; Jared Simon, the co-founder and COO of HotelTonight; Aaron Levie, the founder of Box; and Colin Evans, a founding executive at StubHub, also invested in the round. In addition, Evans has been named the company's chief revenue officer. Gametime is the developer of a mobile-first ticketing platform for last minute sports tickets. The company's mobile app is currently available on iOS and Android in 18 major U.S. markets.

o Palo Alto-Based Branch Metrics Lands $3 Million in Seed Funding

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Branch Metrics, a Palo Alto-based developer of mobile software focused on deep linking technology, said on Tuesday it has raised $3 million in a round of seed funding, led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA). Pejman Mar Ventures, Ben Narasin and TriplePoint Capital also took part in the round, which the company will use to expand its market. Branch provides a URL creation and analytics platform for mobile developers. "As mobile app developers, we've struggled for years to figure out where a new user had come from in order to give them the best, personalized experience after install," said Alex Austin, the company's co-founder and CEO. "We've built Branch as the ultimate mobile app linking toolkit to solve several growth problems we've faced." Scott Sandell and Forest Baskett, general partners at NEA, as well as Mar Hershenson, managing partner at Pejman Mar Ventures, will work closely with the company.

o EU Tells Google to Improve Search Settlement or Face Antitrust Charges

Mountain View, Calif. -- Google could face formal antitrust charges in Europe if it doesn't improve the terms of a settlement with EU regulators over its search practices, a European official said Tuesday. Joaquin Almunia, vice president of the European Commission responsible for competition policy, said in a speech that the settlement, announced by Google in February, falls short of evening the playing field with competitors. The Mountain View-based company proposed displaying the search results of three competitors alongside its own, but that remedy has since been criticized by both EU officials and rivals such as Microsoft. "Some of the 20 formal complainants have given us fresh evidence and solid arguments against several aspects of the latest proposals put forward by Google," said Almunia. "If Google's reply goes in the right direction, Article 9 proceedings will continue. Otherwise, the logical next step is to prepare a Statement of Objections."

o Symphony Technology Group to Acquire McGraw Hill Construction

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Symphony Technology Group, a technology-focused private equity firm based in Palo Alto, said it will pay $320 million in cash to acquire McGraw Hill Construction from owner McGraw Hill Financial. The deal is expected to close by the end of the year. McGraw Hill Construction specializes in pre-bid and bid-stage construction data and analytics. McGraw Hill announced in March it was exploring strategic alternatives for the unit. "We look forward to helping the business achieve the next level of success by continuing to deliver mission critical data and industry news while enhancing analytics and tools to better serve construction professionals," said William Chisholm, the managing director of Symphony Technology Group.
