o San Francisco-Based Credit Karma Lands $75 Million in Funding

San Francisco -- Credit Karma, the San Francisco-based online provider of free credit report and monitoring services, said on Monday it has landed $75 million in a new round of funding from previous backers Google Capital, Tiger Global Management and Susquehanna Growth Equity. The investments come just eight month after the company raised $85 million in its third round. Credit Karma said it will use the proceeds to advance its growth initiatives and bolster product development. The company now counts more than 30 million consumers as users of its services, up 50% since February.

o InnoLight Technology Raises $38 Million in Third Round

Santa Clara, Calif. -- InnoLight Technology, a Chinese maker of high-speed optical transceivers, with U.S. headquarters in Santa Clara, said on Monday it has raised $38 million in its third round of funding. Google Capital and Lightspeed China Partners co-led the round, which the company will use to bolster technology development and expand its production capacity. Founded in 2008, InnoLight said it has nearly doubled its revenue for each of the past three years. The company focuses on 40 Gbps optical transceivers for Web 2.0 companies, and also is developing new 100 Gbps versions. 

o New Yahoo Investor Pushing for Combination with AOL

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Activist investor Starboard Value said it has bought an unspecified stake in Sunnyvale-based Yahoo and is now urging the company to explore a potential tie-up with AOL, The Wall Street Journal reported. Starboard also is pushing the company to reduce expenses and spell out plans for its Asian assets. "We have maintained, and will continue to maintain, an open dialogue with all of our shareholders," said Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer in a statement. "As part of our regular evaluation of Yahoo’s strategic initiatives to drive sustainable shareholder value, we will review Starboard’s letter carefully and look forward to discussing it with them." 

o San Jose-Based Tessera Names Craig Mitchell as CTO, President of Invensas

San Jose, Calif. -- Tessera Technologies, a San Jose-based licensor of mobile, storage and integrated circuit technologies, on Monday named Craig Mitchell as its new CTO, as well as the president of its Invensas interconnect technology unit. He assumes both roles from Simon McElrea, who is leaving the company. Mitchell has been with the company since 1992, most recently serving as its senior vice president of business development. He was a central figure in the development, licensing and technology transfer of the company's flagship microBGA packaging technology to semiconductor manufacturers. 

o Bill Gates Again Leads Forbes 400 List of America's Richest People

For the 21st straight year, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is the richest person in America, according to the newly released Forbes 400, an annual compilation of the country's richest people, based on their estimated net worth. Gates tops the list at $81 billion, followed by financier Warren Buffett ($67 billion) and Oracle founder Larry Ellison ($50 billion). Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg ranks No. 11 ($34 billion -- up nine spots from a year ago -- while Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin rank Nos. 13 and 14, respectively. (Santa Clara, Calif.) Santa Clara-based chipmaker Intel on Monday named Christopher Young as the senior vice president and general manager of Intel Security. Young most recently was senior vice president of the global security and government group at Cisco, and previously held executive roles at VMware and RSA.

(San Francisco) The California Integrated Data Exchange (Cal INDEX), a San Francisco-based non-profit developing a statewide health information exchange, on Monday named Mark Savage and Beth Ginzinger to its board of directors. Savage is the director of health information technology policy and programs for the National Partnership for Women & Families, and Ginzinger is the vice president of provider joint ventures for Anthem Blue Cross' West Region. 

(San Francisco) Business Wire, an online distributor of company press releases and regulatory disclosures, said on Monday at has relocated its San Francisco co-headquarters to new offices at 101 California Street. The company said that the new, custom-designed offices will allow for greater collaboration among multiple departments. With more than 150 employees, San Francisco is Business Wire's largest office, housing its technology, legal, finance, accounting, licensing, human resources and operations departments, as well as a newsroom.
