o Redwood City-Based Shutterfly Acquires Groovebook for $14.5 Million
Redwood City, Calif. -- Shutterfly, the Redwood City-based operator of a digital photo and personalized products site, said on Monday it has acquired Los Angeles-based GrooveBook, developer of a subscription service that sends customers monthly keepsake books of their mobile phone photos. The $14.5 million deal includes an unspecified upfront purchase amount, plus a future performance-based earn-out. "By adding GrooveBook to our family of brands, we will introduce a new photo book form factor while leveraging the viral, social and word of mouth nature of the GrooveBook mobile apps," said Jeffrey Housenbold, the president and CEO of Shutterfly. GrooveBook is an iPhone and Android app and subscription service that prints up to 100 mobile phone photos in a 4.5-inch x 6.5-inch book, and mails it to customers each month for $2.99. The company was featured on the television program "Shark Tank," and worked with investor Kevin O'Leary.

San Francisco -- ServiceSource, a San Francisco-based provider of cloud-based technologies and services designed to help clients better manage recurring revenue, on Monday named Christopher Carrington as its new CEO. Ashley Johnson, the company's previously CFO and most recently acting CEO, will assume the role of chief customer officer, overseeing customer-facing functions. Carrington most recently served as the executive vice president of global delivery for Sykes Enterprises, and previously was the president and CEO of Alpine Access.

o Survey: IT Budgets Set to Take Biggest Leap Since 2008
Arlington, Va. -- Companies' information technology budgets in 2015 are expected to make their largest single-year jump since financial crisis of 2008, according to a new survey from CEB. Spending on IT is forecast to jump 3.3%, with companies ramping up digital channels and technologies that touch the customer, such as mobile applications. To free up additional money, CIOs have reduced maintenance spending from 63% to 57% of their total IT budgets over the past three years by retiring legacy systems, investing in process discipline and sourcing more effectively. "In 2015 CIOs will focus on making IT quicker to adapt to rapidly changing digitization opportunities, and prioritizing investment in improving the digital customer experience," said Andrew Horne, managing director at CEB.
