o Mountain View-Based Veradocs Emerges from Stealth with $14 Million

Mountain View, Calif. -- Veradocs, the Mountain View-based developer of a data security platform designed to let users secure and safely share digital information across platforms and devices, said on Tuesday it has emerged from stealth mode after raising $14 million in a new round of funding. Battery Ventures led the round, which also included participation from Amplify Partners and angel investors. The company also has named Robin Daniels, the former head of enterprise marketing at Box, as its CMO, while Roger Lee, general partner at Battery, has joined its board. Veradocs' technology allows users to set security and sharing policies for corporate data, and have those policies follow that data wherever it goes. The platform allows users to set and change policies in real-time, then track where data is going, who's trying to access it and what they are trying to do with it. The company was founded by Arora and Prakash Linga, whose previous startup, RAPsphere, was sold to Appsense in 2012. Its platform is currently in private beta, with generally availability expected in early 2015.

o California No. 37 on Forbes "Best States for Business" List

Utah has jumped into the No. 1 spot on Forbes' newly released list of the "Best States for Business," which ranks California at No. 37. Utah, which was No. 3 a year ago, topped North Dakota, North Carolina and last year's winner, Virginia, in the annual rankings, which examine factors for business such as costs, labor supply, regulatory environment, current economic climate, growth prospects and quality of life. California moved up two spots from a year ago, and now has advanced four spots since 2012, when it ranked No. 41. "Though California has been under duress in recent years from the dramatic fall in home prices and reduced state tax revenues, its outlook looks bright," Forbes wrote. "Economic and job growth are both expected to be strong over the next five years. Another plus is the $44 billion in venture capital money invested in California companies over the past three years, an amount which is almost five times the total of any other state." The complete rankings are available at the link below.
