Menlo Ventures, Triangle Peak Partners and SOS Ventures also participated in the round, which increased the company's total backing to more than $40 million. With the funding, Getaround said it plans to expand its service into major U.S. markets, starting with Oakland, Portland and Washington DC in early 2015. Getaround's Connect hardware and new iPhone and Android apps are designed to let users instantly share cars without waiting for their requests to be approved or meeting in-person to get the keys. "Our focus has shifted to an entirely on-demand sharing experience and we have seen tremendous traction with this model," said founder Jessica Scorpio.

o San Francisco-Based Ditto Raises $5 Million in New Funding

San Francisco -- Ditto, the San Francisco-based developer of an e-commerce site for eyewear, said on Thursday it has raised $5 million in a new round of funding from August Capital and National Vision. The company now has raised $8 million since its inception, including a seed round led by August. The company will use the latest proceeds to bolster its technology and grow its staff. Ditto's site allows customers to record a short video of their face from their smartphone or webcam to create a 3D image. They then can virtually try-on glasses and sunglasses in 180-degree views. The company also announced a partnership with National Vision, the nation's fourth largest optical retailer and operator of America's Best, Eyeglass World and Vision Center inside select Walmart stores. Through the deal, Ditto will license its technology and experiment with in-store kiosks at America's Best locations.
