San Francisco -- Eaze, the San Francisco-based developer of a tech-powered medical marijuana delivery service, said on Thursday it has raised $1.5 million in seed funding from nearly 40 Silicon Valley angel and institutional investors, including The ArcView Group and Fresh VC. The company said it will use the proceeds to speed development of its technology platform, which powers medical marijuana deliveries to San Francisco patients in about 10 minutes. The platform is designed to automate the process from order to driver dispatch to delivery. "It's the only way we can scale operations to meet the magnitude of patient demand," said founder and CEO Keith McCarty.

o Ittiam Systems Opens Offices in Santa Clara, Hires Marketing Exec
Santa Clara, Calif. -- Ittiam Systems, an India-based developer of media creation, management and consumption technology, said on Thursday it has opened a new office in Santa Clara. The move gives the company a physical presence in a region where it says it already counts a "significant customer base." "The industry is making a paradigm shift towards online video processing and on-demand provisioning of video services," said Srini Rajam, the company's chairman and CEO. "Our new facility in Santa Clara puts us in close proximity of this technology revolution and customer thought process." Ittiam also has hired Dirk Peters as its senior vice president of sales and marketing. Peters previously served as the vice president and head of worldwide sales for the professional technology group at DivX, and earlier was the CEO of MainConcept. Ittiam provides advanced media codecs, software development platforms, systems and workflows for embedded and online applications.

o LivingSocial Cuts 20% of Staff, Closes Torrance Sales Facility
Torrance, Calif. -- Two weeks after announcing lower revenue and a higher net loss for the third quarter, deals site LivingSocial said on Thursday it plans to close its sales facility in Torrance and cut approximately 400 jobs, or 20% of its workforce. Gautam Thakar, who took over as CEO in August, said the moves will enable the company to better fund areas of growth, including technology, data science and mobile. "Today is an important step in the refounding of our company," said Thakar. "We are committed to a multi-year journey to build a sustainable business that better meets the needs of our millions of customers and thousands of merchants." The news comes a year after Washington, DC-based LivingSocial announced plans to shift away from its daily deals model toward more of an online marketplace. "This reorganization begins to address the need for the company to further focus on reshaping its mission and redefining the market in an industry that is stagnant, and overly dependent on email," said Thakar.

o Audax Group's Astrodyne Acquires TDI Power
Menlo Park, Calif. -- Astrodyne, a portfolio company of Menlo Park private equity firm Audax Group based in Massachusetts, said it has acquired TDI Power from a group of private owners. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Headquartered in New Jersey, TDI manufactures power supplies and systems for semiconductor, industrial, medical and other end markets. The company focuses on applications that require precise voltage or current in harsh or highly variable conditions. TDI Power is Astrodyne's sixth acquisition under Audax's ownership.
