o Menlo Park-Based KPCB Leads $50 Million Round for Optoro
Menlo Park, Calif. -- Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB), the Menlo Park-based venture capital firm, said on Wednesday it has led a new $50 million round of funding for Optoro, the Washington, DC-based developer of an e-commerce platform designed to help big-box retailers increase revenue from returned and excess inventory. Generation Investment Management and previous backers Revolution Growth, Grotech Ventures and SWaN & Legend Venture Partners also took part in the company's third round. KPCB partner Daniel Oros will join the company's board. The company said it will use the proceeds to scale major partnerships and expand into new markets. Co-founded by Tobin Moore and Adam Vitarello in 2008, Optoro uses its cloud-based software to sell excess and returned inventory simultaneously across more than a dozen digital platforms, including eBay, Amazon and its own consumer-facing site, BLINQ.com.

o San Francisco-Based Versant Ventures Closes New $305 Million Fund
San Francisco -- Versant Ventures, a San Francisco-based healthcare investment firm, said on Wednesday it has closed a new $305 million fund. The fund, Versant Venture Capital V, will invest in biopharmaceutical, medical device, healthcare services and health IT companies in North America and Europe, at all stages of development. Versant now has raised $1.9 billion since its inception. The firm already has made several investment from the fund, including to Northern Biologics, a company launched by Blueline Bioscience that will develop novel therapeutic antibodies through a partnership with Celgene.

o S.F.-Based Metric Insights Lands $2.1 Million in Seed Round
San Francisco -- Metric Insights, the San Francisco-based developer of a business intelligence platform for enterprise customers, said on Wednesday it has secured $2.1 million in its seed round of funding, led by First Round. Aster Data founder Tasso Argyos, Linden Lab founder Phillip Rosedale and Aerohive Networks founder Changming Liu also participated in the round. The company said it will use a portion of the proceeds to build out its sales and marketing teams. Metric Insights' "Push Intelligence" platform is designed to push timely insights to users, allowing them to take action. Customers include Barnes & Noble, Adobe and Comcast.

San Francisco -- Twitch, the San Francisco-based developer of a video platform for gamers, said it will acquire GoodGame, a San Francisco-based agency dedicated to the esports and live video game broadcasting communities. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Twitch said the acquisition will bolster the array of support and monetization opportunities that it can offer its community. "GoodGame has an amazing reputation in the industry for its expertise in both sponsorship sales and talent support," said Twitch COO Kevin Lin. "We have worked with GoodGame CEO Alexander Garfield for several years, and there is a clear opportunity for him to bring his skills and experiences to many more of our partners."

San Francisco -- Quick Left, a Colorado-based provider of software development services and tools, with offices in San Francisco, said on Wednesday it has raised $500,000 in funding from Lighter Capital. The six-year-old company, which serves clients such as Red Robin and Ping Identity, said it will use the proceeds to expand its product development efforts, including hiring developers in San Francisco and Portland over the coming months. Part of that effort will involve aligning its suite of products with the Agile programming tools from Sprintly, its recent merger partner.
