San Francisco -- Adyen, a developer of payments technology with dual headquarters in San Francisco and Amsterdam, said on Tuesday it has raised $250 million in a new round of funding, led by General Atlantic. Temasek, Index Ventures and Felicis Ventures also took part in the round, which the company will use to fuel global adoption of its platform, particularly in the North American and Asia Pacific markets, as well as to bolster product development. Adyen's technology gives businesses the ability to accept nearly any type of payment, anywhere in the world, whether online, though a mobile device or in a store. The company, which this year saw a 100% increase in payment transaction volume and revenue, counts more than 3,500 customers, including Facebook, Spotify, Airbnb, Groupon, Evernote and Booking.com.

o Palo Alto's Piccing Raises $3.6 Million, Launches Platform Globally

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Piccing, the developer of a social shopping platform with U.S. offices in Palo Alto, said on Tuesday it has raised $3.6 million in its first round of funding. Identities of the investors were not disclosed. The company also announced the formal global launch of its visually driven platform, which allows users to access, engage with and buy multiple items within an online image. Piccing now boasts 42 million members who have "picced" and curated more than 1.8 billion items to date. The company counts 334 brands as partners, including Nordstrom, Armani, Booking.com, Swarovski, Zappos, Benefit Cosmetics and Oakley.

o S.F.-Based Thoma Bravo Completes $2.4 Billion Deal for Compuware

San Francisco -- Thoma Bravo, the San Francisco-based private equity firm, said it has completed its $2.4 billion acquisition of Detroit-based Compuware, a developer of IT products for large businesses. Under the deal, first announced in September, the firm paid $10.75 a share. Compuware’s stock now has ceased trading on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol "CPWR." Bob Paul, the CEO of Compuware, said the close of the deal "marks an exciting outcome to what has been a multi-year business transformation" for the company.

o VisionCare Ophthalmic Technologies Lands New Round of Funding

Saratoga, Calif. -- VisionCare Ophthalmic Technologies, a Saratoga-based developer of implantable miniature telescope devices used in patients with macular degeneration, said on Tuesday that it has raised an unspecified amount in a new round of venture funding. The company said that unspecified new and previous investors took part in the round, which it will use to double its sales team, expand marketing activities and accelerate market adoption of its implant and treatment program. The news comes two months after the FDA approved VisionCare's implant for patients as young as age 65 -- 10 years younger than previously allowed. The company also raised $15 million in debt financing from Life Sciences Alternative Funding in Sept. 2013.

Redwood City-based ThreatStream, developer of a web-based cyber security threat intelligence platform, has named Rick Wescott as its vice president of worldwide sales and Todd Helfrich as its director of federal sales. Wescott most recently served as vice president and general manager of public sector sales at ArcSight, which was acquired by HP in 2010.
