o Palo Alto's MongoDB Raises $80 Million in New Funding

Palo Alto, Calif. -- MongoDB, a provider of big data management technology with dual headquarters in Palo Alto and New York, said on Monday it has raised $80 million in a new round of funding, which it hopes to eventually cap at $100 million. Nine investors have so far participated, led by an unspecified "sovereign wealth fund." Goldman Sachs and previous backers Altimeter Capital, NEA, Sequoia and T. Rowe Price Associates also have participated in the round, which increases the seven-year-old company's total funding to $311 million. "These additional funds mean we can further accelerate the delivery of world-class [database management system] technology while scaling the business to meet the needs of our users and customers globally," said Dev Ittycheria, the company's president and CEO, in a statement. MongoDB is now used by over 2,000 customers, including Adobe, ADP, Amazon, AT&T, Buzzfeed, Cisco, Craigslist, Dropbox, eBay, eHarmony, Expedia, Foursquare, Forbes, The GapGoldman Sachs, Intuit, McAfee, MetLife, MTV, Salesforce, Shutterfly and Under Armour.

o Pleasanton-Based 10X Genomics Raises $55.5 Million in Second Round

Pleasanton, Calif. -- 10X Genomics, the Pleasanton-based developer of a genomics platform, said on Monday it has raised $55.5 million in its second round of funding, led by Foresite Capital Management. Venrock, Paladin Capital Group and funds managed by Morgan Stanley Investment Management also participated. The company, which now has raised more than $80 million since its inception, is led by founder and CEO Serge Saxonov, a founding architect of 23andMe. 10X Genomics is commercializing a new genomics platform that it says "will change the definition of sequencing. "The genome is complex and much of this complexity is lost or inaccessible using available sequencing technologies," said Chairman John Stuelpnagel, adding that his company's platform "captures this important genomic information, thereby increasing the value of sequencing."

San Francisco -- Ginger.io, the San Francisco-based developer of a mobile app that uses passive data and deep analytics to improve behavioral health, said on Monday it has landed $20 million in its second round of funding, which the company will use to expand the development of its platform. Participants included previous backers Khosla Ventures and True Ventures, as well as several new investors. Developed at the MIT Media Lab, Ginger.io's machine learning technology uses smartphone data and self-reported surveys to identify trends in a patient's health and wellness.
