o S.F.-Based App Annie Raises $55 Million in Fourth Round

San Francisco -- App Annie, the San Francisco-based developer of an app analytics and market data platform, said on Tuesday it has raised $55 million in its fourth round of funding, led by Institutional Venture Partners (IVP). Previous backers Sequoia Capital, Greycroft Partners and IDG Capital Partners also took part in the round. Eric Liaw, a general partner at IVP, has joined the company's board of directors. The funding follows a period of strong growth for App Annie, which last year more than doubled its headcourt to 300 and acquired mobile analytics firm Distimo. It plans to use the new capital to bolster product development, accelerate international expansion and fund potential M&A activity. The company also has announced the launch of Usage Intelligence, a tool that provides active user and engagement trends across thousands of apps.

o Databricks Moves to Larger Headquarters in San Francisco

San Francisco -- Databricks, developer of an open-source cloud platform designed to extract value from big data, said on Tuesday it has relocated its corporate headquarters from Berkeley to San Francisco. The new 15,000-square-foot space, located in San Francisco's SOMA district, triples the size of Databricks' previous office. That's key for a company that has increased its headcount from 14 to 46 over the past year. "San Francisco is a melting pot for raw talent and technology innovation, and gives us excellent access to customers and partners," said CEO Ion Stoica. The company also has named Kavitha Mariappan, a former marketing vice president at Maginatics, as its vice president of marketing.
