o Zillow Completes $2.5 Billion Deal for S.F.-Based Trulia, Eliminates Jobs

San Francisco -- Nearly seven months after first announcing the deal, Seattle-based Zillow, operator of the nation's most visited real estate website, said on Wednesday it has completed its $2.5 billion all-stock acquisition of San Francisco-based challenger Trulia. The combined company will operate under the name Zillow Group, which will serve as the parent to real estate and home-related brands Zillow, Trulia, New York City's real estate marketplace StreetEasy and rental search brand HotPads. In connection with the acquisition, the companies have eliminated approximately 280 positions, primarily in San Francisco and Bellevue, Wash., due primarily to redundancies in sales and administration, and plans to cut another 70 jobs at the end of the second quarter. Zillow Group will be left with approximately 2,000 employees. Paul Levine, previously Trulia's COO, has been named president of Trulia, reporting to Zillow CEO Spencer Rascoff. Pete Flint, the co-founder and former CEO of Trulia, has joined the company's board of directors. The new Zillow Group on Wednesday began trading on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol "Z."
