o San Francisco-Based Crosslink Capital Raises New $170 Million Fund

San Francisco -- Crosslink Capital, a San Francisco-based venture capital firm, said on Thursday it has raised $170 million for its seventh fund, the firm said it will use the fund, known as Ventures Fund VII, to continue investing in early stage software, mobile and consumer startups developing cloud computing, infrastructure, security and Software-as-a-Service technologies. "We'll use Fund VII to primarily invest in leading early-stage startups, while supporting the needs of later-stage companies through our other existing funds," said Jim Feuille, one of four general partners of the fund, in addition to Eric Chin, David Silverman and Michael Stark. Founded in 1989, Crosslink currently has more than $1.6 billion under management. Portfolio exits include Ancestry.com, Bizo, Bleacher Report, BlueArc, Equinix, Omniture, Pandora, Sea Micro and TiVo.

o Los Altos-Based ClusterHQ Lands $12 Million in First Round

Los Altos, Calif. -- ClusterHQ, a Los Altos-based developer of open source container data management tools, said on Thursday it has landed $12 million in its first round of funding, led by Accel Partners London. Canaan Partners and previous backers also took part in the round, which the company will use to expand technical and go-to-market resources to help organizations use containers in production. ClusterHQ is the company behind Flocker, an open-source project that lets organizations run their data-backed services in containers without losing operational management features. The company in September named Mark Davis, the founder and former CEO of software-defined storage vendor Virsto Software, as its new CEO. Davis plans to expand ClusterHQ's Bay Area headquarters to complement the company's U.K.-based development team.

o Foster City-Based E2open to Be Acquired by Insight Venture Partners

Foster City, Calif. -- E2open, a Foster City-based developer of software for managing business across complex trading networks, said on Thursday it will be acquired by Insight Venture Partners in a deal valued at $273 million. Under the agreement, Insight will pay $8.60 a share through a cash tender offer. Upon closing, expected by the end of May, E2open will become a privately held company. "With the benefit of Insight's knowledge and domain expertise, combined with the added flexibility we will have as a private company, E2open will be able to focus on long-term investment and growth," said Mark Woodward, the company's president and CEO.

o Under Armour Acquires San Francisco-Based MyFitnessPal

San Francisco -- Continuing its recent push into digital health and fitness, Baltimore-based fitness apparel giant Under Armour said it has acquired San Francisco-based MyFitnessPal for $475 million and Denmark-based Endomondo for $85 million. MyFitnessPal is the developer of a free personal health and fitness platform with over 80 million registered users. The acquisition expands Under Armour's Connected Fitness platform to now include nutritional resources such as a calorie counter, nutrition and exercise tracker. Endomondo, meanwhile, has one of the largest global connected fitness communities in Europe with approximately 20 million registered users. "They are ideal partners to enable Under Armour to provide data-driven, proactive solutions to help athletes of all levels lead healthier and more active lifestyles," said Chairman and CEO Kevin Plank. Combined with the company's recent launch of the UA Record app and website, Under Armour will now be connected with over 120 million unique global consumers, representing what it says is the largest digital health and fitness community in the world. The push started in 2013 with Under Armour's purchase of MapMyFitness.

o Menlo Park-Based Armetheon Raises $24.3 Million in Second Round

Menlo Park, Calif. -- Armetheon, a Menlo Park-based specialty biopharmaceutical firm focused on cardiovascular diseases, said on Thursday it has raised $24.3 million in its second round of funding. Hercules Bioventure Partners and Capital TEN II co-led the round, which also included participation from several new and previous backers. The company said it will use the bulk of the proceeds to advance its lead drug candidate, tecarfarin, through its final clinical study, as well as to help gain regulatory approval in the U.S. Armetheon also raised $7 million in its first round last August.

o S.F.-Based Message Systems to Acquire Port25 Solutions

San Francisco -- Message Systems, a San Francisco-based provider of email infrastructure, said on Thursday it has acquired Maryland-based Port25 Solutions, maker of a popular email delivery software product. Financial terms of the stock and cash deal were not disclosed. Port25's technology, customer base and staff will form a stand-alone unit of Message Systems, continuing to focus on the medium-to-large-sized sender market. John Karpovich, the current CEO of Port25, will become general manager of the unit, and Juan Altmayer Pizzorno will remain as its senior vice president of research and development. Port25's core product, PowerMTA, is used by Salesforce Marketing Cloud, SmartFocus, The New York Times, Oracle Responsys Marketing Suite, Microsoft and Turner Broadcasting. "This acquisition definitively positions Message Systems to serve the email infrastructure needs of companies of all sizes -- from developers at startups through to the world's largest senders with both cloud and on-premise solutions," said CEO Phillip Merrick.
