o Palo Alto-Based HP to Sell Majority Stake in Chinese Businesses

Palo Alto, Calif. -- HP said Thursday it will sell a majority stake in its Chinese server, storage and technology services businesses to Tsinghua Holdings for $2.3 billion. The deal will create a new technology infrastructure business under the name H3C Technologies, which will have approximately 8,000 employees and $3.1 billion in annual revenue. Palo Alto-based HP, meanwhile, will maintain 100% ownership of its existing China-based Enterprise Services, Software, HP Helion Cloud, Aruba Networks, Printing and Personal Systems businesses. Meg Whitman, HP's chairman and CEO, called the deal "a bold move to win in today's China." "In one move, we have repositioned HP and H3C to accelerate overall performance and better serve our customers and partners," she said. The deal is expected to close near the end of this year.

o WSJ: S.F.-Based Uber Seeking $1B Credit Facility Ahead of Possible IPO

San Francisco -- In a move that could be a precursor to an initial public offering (IPO), San Francisco-based on-demand car service Uber is in talks with six-seven banks about obtaining a $1 billion line of credit, The Wall Street Journal reported. The publication wrote the move could help the company cement relationships with banks for an eventual IPO, though one isn't expected to occur until at least early next year. Other tech companies, such as Facebook and Alibaba, also sought large credit facilities before their IPOs, The Journal reported. Uber, which has landed more than $5 billion in debt and equity since launching in 2010, also is in the process of raising additional funding that could value the company at more than $50 billion.
