o San Francisco-Based PAX Labs Raises $46.7 Million in Funding

San Francisco -- PAX Labs, a San Francisco-based developer of vaping and e-cigarette technology, said on Wednesday it has raised $46.7 million in a new round of funding. Previous backers Tao Capital Partners and Sand Hill Angels joined Fidelity Management & Research Company, Sivia Capital, a group led by Chuck Pieper and Brian Finn and several individuals in the round. The company will use the proceeds to expand its product availability both domestically and internationally, scale its tobacco vapor products and extend the application of its vapor science technology into new vertical markets. "We are focused on applying our innovations across new industries and use cases," said co-founder and CEO James Monsees.

o San Mateo-Based Lattice Engines Raises $28 Million in Fourth Round

San Mateo, Calif. -- Lattice Engines, a San Mateo-based developer of predictive marketing and sales apps, said on Wednesday it has raised $28 million in its fourth round of funding, co-led by River Cities Capital Funds and Piper Jaffray Merchant Banking. Blue Cloud Ventures and previous investors Sequoia Capital and New Enterprise Associates (NEA) also took part in the round, which increases the company's total backing to $75 million. Sequoia partner Doug Leone will join the company's board of directors. Lattice's marketing and sales apps are designed to predict who will buy, what they are likely to buy and when. Clients include Dell, Staples and SunTrust Bank. The company plans to use the latest proceeds to bolster its engineering, go-to-market and partner ecosystem activities.

o S.F.-Based Volta Lands $4.5 Million for Free Charging Stations

San Francisco -- Volta Industries, a San Francisco-based provider of free electric car charging services, said on Wednesday it has raised $4.5 million in its first round of funding led by Three Bridges Ventures. Riverwood Capital and previous seed investors 500 Startups and Epic Ventures also participated. In addition, the company has landed a $3 million project financing facility from SQN Capital. The funding comes as Volta officially debuts a new community engagement model anchored by a network of more than 100 stations across five cities for free electric car charging service underwritten by brands. "We're driving the price of both the service and the infrastructure to zero as we tap major brands to join our community engagement model," said co-founder and CEO Scott Mercer. "We've seen early success with companies like Macy's, Whole Foods Market and Sungevity, and we expect that list to expand as we grow." Volta currently operates stations in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Los Angeles metropolitan area, San Diego, Phoenix and Honolulu.

o Whitepages Acquires San Francisco-Based NumberCop

San Francisco -- Whitepages, a Seattle-based provider of contact information services, said on Wednesday it has acquired San Francisco-based NumberCop, a provider of services designed to help users identify high-risk calls and texts. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Whitepages said the acquisition will bolster existing spam identification features currently offered in its mobile app and business tool. "Phone-based fraudsters and abusive robocalls are becoming more aggressive as the cost of calls and texts decrease," said Alex Algard, founder and CEO of Whitepages. "Now, not only are we detecting annoying telemarketers, but we're also adding protection against the really bad guys." Existing NumberCop app users will be transitioned to Whitepages Caller ID, and NumberCop's app will be discontinued in December. NumberCop founder Jan Volzke will join Whitepages as vice president of reputation services.
