o S.F.-Based Volta Lands $4.5 Million for Free Charging Stations

San Francisco -- Volta Industries, a San Francisco-based provider of free electric car charging services, said on Wednesday it has raised $4.5 million in its first round of funding led by Three Bridges Ventures. Riverwood Capital and previous seed investors 500 Startups and Epic Ventures also participated. In addition, the company has landed a $3 million project financing facility from SQN Capital. The funding comes as Volta officially debuts a new community engagement model anchored by a network of more than 100 stations across five cities for free electric car charging service underwritten by brands. "We're driving the price of both the service and the infrastructure to zero as we tap major brands to join our community engagement model," said co-founder and CEO Scott Mercer. "We've seen early success with companies like Macy's, Whole Foods Market and Sungevity, and we expect that list to expand as we grow." Volta currently operates stations in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Los Angeles metropolitan area, San Diego, Phoenix and Honolulu.

Existing NumberCop app users will be transitioned to Whitepages Caller ID, and NumberCop's app will be discontinued in December.
