o Apple to Launch Streaming Music Service on June 30

San Francisco -- Apple on Monday unveiled plans to launch a new streaming music service on June 30. The service, to be known as Apple Music, will take the form of a mobile app featuring more than 30 million songs, with playlists developed by human curators based on a subscriber's preferences. Users also can ask Siri to, for instance, "Play me the best songs from 1994." Other aspects of the service -- which will cost $9.99 a month following an initial three-month trial -- will include Beats 1, a live 24-hour radio station led by influential DJs Zane Lowe in Los Angeles, Ebro Darden in New York and Julie Adenuga in London, as well as a feature designed to connect artists and fans. "All the ways people love enjoying music come together in one app -- a revolutionary streaming service, live worldwide radio and an exciting way for fans to connect with artists," said Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Internet software and services.

o Santa Clara-Based Me-Ality Raises $15 Million in Private Placement

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Me-Ality, the Santa Clara-based developer of scanner technology able to take precise body measurements while a person is fully clothed, said on Monday it has raised $15 million through an equity private placement. Northwater Capital Management, the company's largest investor, co-led the funding, along with new director Skip Battle, the chairman of FICO. Me-Ality said it will use the proceeds to fund ongoing operations, including the commercialization of its handheld body scanner in international markets. The company also has added Peter Reiling, executive vice president for leadership at the Aspen Institute, as a new board member. Me-Ality's size-matching technology has major implications in the clothing industry, matching body dimensions to clothing specifications to help take the guesswork out of size selection.

o Survey: U.S. CEOs Holding Off on Capital Investments and Hiring

Washington, DC -- Concerned about continuing sluggishness in the U.S. economy, a growing number of CEOs are putting off plans for capital investment and hiring, according to the Business Roundtable's second quarter CEO Economic Outlook Index. The index -- a composite of CEO projections for sales, and plans for capital spending and hiring over the next six months -- declined from 90.8 in the first quarter to 81.3 in the second quarter. CEOs said that they expect sales, investment and hiring to decrease almost 10 points, 9.8 points and 8.9 points, respectively, and project GDP growth of 2.5% in 2015, 0.3% lower than last quarter. "Of particular concern is the downward movement of our CEOs' investment plans," said Randall Stephenson, chairman of the Business Roundtable and chairman and CEO of AT&T. "Business investment is a key driver of economic expansion and job growth." The complete survey is available at the link below.
