o S.F.-Based Digital Realty Trust to Acquire Telx for $1.9 Billion

San Francisco -- Digital Realty Trust, a San Francisco-based provider of data center and colocation services, said on Tuesday it will acquire New York-based counterpart Telx from private equity firms ABRY Partners and Berkshire Partners in a deal valued at nearly $1.9 billion. The transaction is expected to close later this year. Digital Realty said the acquisition will double footprint in the colocation business, as well as provide its customers access to an interconnection platform. Telx, which has West Coast headquarters in San Francisco, is the developer of an interconnection ecosystem that lets communications service providers, enterprises, content providers and other entities to exchange information. "Telx's well-established colocation and interconnection businesses provide access to two rapidly-growing segments with long-standing customer relationships in top-tier metropolitan areas such as New York and Silicon Valley," said CEO William Stein. As of March 31, Telx managed 1.3 million square feet of data center space operating out of 20 facilities, including 11 leased from Digital Realty.

o San Francisco-Based Sysdig Lands $10.7 Million in First Round

San Francisco -- Sysdig, a San Francisco-based developer of container visibility technology, said on Tuesday it has landed $10.7 million in its first round of funding, co-led by Accel and Bain Capital Ventures. The company also announced the general release of its core Sysdig Cloud software, a monitoring, alerting and troubleshooting platform specializing in container visibility. "Containers are by their very nature dynamic, isolated, lightweight and portable," said founder and CEO Loris Degioanni. "But these same characteristics also make containers impractical to monitor with traditional, agent-based methods." The company said its platform is designed to monitor a user's entire architecture from its own stand-alone container, yet still offer visibility into every other service running in a user's environment. Sysdig now has raised $13 million since its inception.

o Palo Alto-Based AeroFS Raises $10 Million in Second Round

Palo Alto, Calif. -- AeroFS, a Palo Alto-based developer of private cloud collaboration tools, said on Tuesday it has raised $10 million in its second round of funding, co-led by Avalon Ventures and NHN Investment. The company said it will use the proceeds to expand product development and marketing for its latest private cloud workgroup collaboration offering. Yuri Sagalov, the co-founder and CEO of AeroFS, said his company is filling a need for modern workplace collaboration technology brought on by an increasingly mobile workforce and more employees using their own mobile devices at work "Unfortunately, today's public cloud solutions fall short for many companies due to privacy, security and data sovereignty concerns," said Sagalov. "At the same time, the private cloud offers more than just security. In many cases, it also offers much higher performance and significantly reduced cost of ownership." Woo Kim, the investment director of NHN, will join the company's board of directors.
