o Redwood City-Based Gynesonics Raises $43 Million in Funding

Redwood City, Calif. -- Gynesonics, a Redwood City-based developer of technology that uses radiofrequency energy to treat uterine fibroids in women, said it has raised $43 million in a new round of funding, co-led by new investor Endeavour Vision and previous backer Abingworth. HealthCrest, InterWest Partners, Advanced Technology Ventures (ATV), HBM Partners, Correlation Ventures and Hercules Technology Growth Capital also participated. The company will use the proceeds to support current and future clinical trials, as well as to bolster operations, research and development and marketing. o Attorneys General Urge Phone Carriers to Offer Call-Blocking Technology

Sacramento, Calif. -- California Attorney General Kamala Harris on Wednesday called on five major telephone companies to offer call-blocking technology that would let their customers prevent unwanted calls. In a joint letter to the CEOs of AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile and CenturyLink, Harris and 44 other AGs wrote that a new rule clarification by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) allows landline and mobile telecom providers to offer the call-blocking service. The carriers previously had claimed that implementing the technology was illegal under federal law. "Every year, our offices are flooded with consumer complaints pleading for a solution to stop intrusive robocalls," the attorneys general wrote. "Your companies are now poised to offer your customers the help they need. We urge you to act without delay." The FCC voted June 18 to pass the rule clarification. Call-blocking options already exist for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone service and Android cell phones.
