o EMC Completes $1.2 Billion Acquisition of San Francisco's Virtustream

San Francisco -- Closing the books on one of the region's largest acquisitions this year, data storage technology giant EMC said on Thursday it has completed its $1.2 billion deal for Maryland-based Virtustream, a provider of cloud software and services with West Coast offices in San Francisco. The all-cash deal was first announced in May. Virtustream will become Massachusetts-based EMC's new managed cloud services business -- a key cog in EMC's strategy to "help customers move all applications to cloud-based IT environments." Founded in 2009 and backed by TDF Ventures, Noro-Moseley Partners, Blue Lagoon Capital, Columbia Capital and Intel Capital, Virtustream helps organizations migrate and run their important software apps in the cloud. Clients include Coca-Cola, Domino Sugar, Heinz and Scotts Miracle-Gro. Virtustream CEO Rodney Rogers said his company had started the process of going public late last year when a number of potential suitors emerged. "We chose EMC. It was, quite honestly, an easy decision," wrote Rogers in a blog post. "EMC's reach, sales force, commercial model and asset base will literally give us the opportunity to take this precious kernel of IP that we have developed and reach the world with it."
