o S.F.-Based Shift Technologies Raises $50 Million in Second Round

San Francisco -- Shift Technologies, the San Francisco-based developer of an online service designed to help sellers get cars ready for sale, manage inquiries and schedule test drives, said it has raised $50 million in its second round of funding, led by Goldman Sachs Investment Partners (GSIP). Previous backers DFJ and Highland Capital Partners also participated. Ian Friedman, the co-head of GSIP Private Investments, has joined the company's board of directors. Shift plans to use the latest proceeds to expand its team and enter new markets. The company recently launched its second hub in Los Angeles and expects to be operating in more than 20 markets by the end of 2016. "There's a massive opportunity to modernize the pre-owned car market with a combination of technology, better economics and a consumer-centric model," said co-founder and CEO George Arison. "The current options are either a significant hassle or exceedingly unfair from a price standpoint. These issues aren't going to be solved by re-creating a car dealership online, but rather by pursuing a new model that empowers private buyers and sellers."

MedeAnalytics' cloud-based analytics tools are used by more than 1,500 healthcare organizations, helping them utilize vast amounts of data to deliver more cost-effective care and promote a healthier population. "Healthcare analytics is a growing market, one that plays a significant role in the healthcare industry that is only growing more important with each passing day," said Arvindh Kumar, principal at Thoma Bravo.

o Campbell-Based ConnectedYard Raises $2.2 Million in Seed Funding

Campbell, Calif. -- ConnectedYard, the Campbell-based developer of a connected device that continuously monitors pool and hot tub water quality, said on Wednesday it has raised a $2.2 million seed round of funding, led by Playground Global. Previous backer Tandem Capital also participated. The company's first sensor-based product, known as pHin, is designed to send automated alerts to a user's mobile device when chemicals need to be added to the water. Under a subscription-based model, customers are then shipped pre-measured chemical pods, and given access to a network of on-demand pool service technicians. Currently offered for pre-sale, pHin will be available in the first quarter of 2016. "The U.S. market alone encompasses more than 14 million residential pools and hot tubs, representing a significant opportunity," said co-founder and CEO Justin Miller. "Our goal is to bring simplicity and fun to the backyard through the Internet of Things."
