o San Francisco-Based CloudFlare Raises $110 Million in Funding

San Francisco -- CloudFlare, the San Francisco-based developer of a network designed to enhance the performance and security of web pages, said it has raised $110 million in a new round of funding, led by Fidelity Management and Research. Google Capital, Microsoft, Baidu, Qualcomm and several previous backers also participated. The investment comes as the CloudFlare's customer base reaches the 4 million mark, following its expansion into more than 30 countries. The company turned profitable in 2014. "Beyond the additional capital raised, the broad, strategic participation in the round from many of the world’s leading technology firms validates the opportunity ahead of us, and positions us for the next chapter of our growth," wrote Joshua Motta, the company's special projects lead, in a blog post.

o Mountain View-Based Blue Jeans Network Lands $76.5 Million

Mountain View, Calif. -- Blue Jeans Network, a Mountain View-based provider of cloud-based video collaboration services, said on Wednesday it has landed $76.5 million in a new round of funding, led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA). Other participants included previous investors Accel, Battery Ventures and Norwest Venture Partners, as well as new investors Glynn Capital, Quadrille Capital and Derek Jeter. The company will use the proceeds to expand in Europe, Asia and Australia, and support ongoing product innovation. Blue Jeans' cloud technology connects business video conference room systems like Cisco and Polycom with consumer desktop and mobile services like Skype and Google. Launched in 2011, the company now provides more than 1 billion minutes of real-time video collaboration annually to over 25 million participants. "Despite all the advances in modern technology, the human face is still the most powerful tool for business," said CEO Krish Ramakrishnan. "As organizations have become more geographically dispersed, the need for video has become more critical than ever." Blue Jeans now has raised $175 million since its inception.

o IPO Report: Biotech Overtakes Technology in U.S.

New York -- Following a stellar year for technology IPOs in 2014, biotech companies have moved to center stage this year, according to a new report by EY. Over the first nine months of 2015, biotech accounted for 45% of all IPOs in the U.S. Meanwhile, technology has accounted for just 12% of IPOs and 14% of capital raised -- down from 18% and 45%, respectively, a year ago. "The shine has come off technology IPOs in 2015 and we believe two drivers are at work," said Maria Pinelli, EY's global vice chair of strategic growth markets. "The first is that the private funding market has become more highly capitalized and has seized on tech as its investment of choice, reducing the pool of companies available to list. The second driver is that biotech assets are coming of age and the equity story is highly appealing to wholesale and retail investors."
