o San Carlos-Based Auris Surgical Robotics Raises $149.6 Million
San Carlos, Calif. -- Auris Surgical Robotics, a San Carlos-based startup developing robotics for use in eye surgery, has raised $149.6 million in a new round of funding, the stealthy company revealed in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Investors include Lux Capital, NaviMed Capital and Peter Thiel's Mithril Capital Management, MedCity News reported. Auris, which raised $34 million last year, announced two years ago that it would team with Biolase to develop an ophthalmologic robot system for removing cataracts. The company is the fourth surgical robotics startup founded by Frederic Moll.

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Coherent, a Santa Clara-based provider of photonics technology to the commercial and scientific research markets, said that Helene Simonet will retire as its executive vice president and CFO in February. Simonet, who has been with the company for 16 years, said she plans to spend more time with family, and will assist in the search for her replacement. "I could not have asked for a better partner during our tenure together and I look forward to working with her on the recruitment of and transition to her successor," said CEO John Ambroseo.
