o San Francisco-based Square Files to Raise up to $275M in IPO

San Francisco -- Square, the San Francisco-based provider of mobile payment technology, has filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission for a planned initial public offering of stock to raise up to $275 million. Founded in 2009 by Twitter co-founder and recently appointed CEO, Jack Dorsey, Square reported revenue of $560 million for the six months ended in June, which represents a 51% increase over the same period a year ago. The company markets several software and hardware products for mobile payments. Its primary venture capital investors include biggest investment Khosla Ventures, JPMorgan Chase, Sequoia Capital and Rizvi Traverse.

o SF-based Splunk Forms Strategic Alliance with Booz Allen

San Francisco – Technology consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton and San Francisco-based Splunk, the developer of a platform for real-time operational intelligence, announced a strategic alliance focused on providing cybersecurity products. The two companies said they will jointly deliver technology and services to both public sector and commercial organizations. "The strategic alliance will combine Booz Allen's advanced analytics, specialized tradecraft, and deep industry expertise with Splunk's technology and machine data platform to deliver new innovative solutions that extend beyond the traditional enterprise,” the companies said in a statement.

o San Francisco-Based UNIFi Software Raises $10 Million of VC

San Francisco -- UNIFi Software, a San Francisco-based developer of data-integration software, has raised $10 million in a new round of venture capital, according to a new filing by the company with the Securities and Exchange Commission. UNIFi's platform is designed to let users search for data across an organization, pull it into Hadoop and structure it so analysis can all be done in one place. Investors in the company include Canaan Partners and Omaha Capital.

Santa Clara, Calif. -- LeanTaaS, a Santa Clara-based developer of software for hospitals and clinics, has raised $2 million of venture capital and debt, according to a new filing by the company with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Founded in 2010, LeanTaaS employs advanced data science to improve the operational performance of clinical healthcare facilities. Its software is designed to optimize schedules that are tailored to each site in order to reduce patient wait times and operating costs.

o San Francisco-based Names Eric Feng Partner, Arielle Zuckerberg Associate

San Francisco -- Eric Feng, the CTO of social media company Flipboard, has resigned his position to accept a roel as general partner with the venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Flipboard has raised $210 million of venture capital from Ashton Kutcher, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, Goldman Sachs, Index Ventures, Insight Venture Partners, Kleiner Perkins, and others. Kleiner also just named Arielle Zuckerberg, sister of Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg as a new associate with the investment firm.
