Fremont, Calif. -- AgJunction, a Kansas-based provider of hardware and software applications for "precision" agriculture, on Friday announced it has completed its merger with Novariant, a Fremont-based provider of positioning, intelligent sensor & control systems, advanced steering hardware and applications software for farm machines. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The combined company now has approximately 200 employees, and plans to maintain offices in California, Kansas, Arizona, Canada and Australia.

o San Francisco-based Quip Raises $30 Million Second Round

San Francisco -- Quip, a San Francisco-based provider of word-processing software, has raised $30 million in its second round of venture capital, according to a new filing by the company with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Founded in 2012, Quip offers software that allows users to create documents on any device, including phones, tablets and the desktop. The company was founded by Bret Taylor and Kevin Gibbs, who worked together at Google. Investor in Quip include Greylock Partners and Benchmark.

o Pinterest to Spend $19 Million Renovating SoMa Headquarters

San Francisco -- Pinterest, the San Francisco-based image sharing company, plans to spend around $19 million to renovate its headquarters building in the SoMa district, according to a new filing by the company with the SEC. Pinterest signed a multi-year lease on the property in June. "Pinterest's space will include other amenities such as a kitchen expected to serve over 2,000 meals a day and modeled after a food truck," according to the filing. When, complete, the renovated facility will include "all hands meeting areas and training rooms, showers, and other features that are considered to be desirable to tech tenants in the San Francisco area."

o South San Francisco-based CytomX Raises $92 Million in IPO

South San Francisco -- CytomX Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company developing therapeutics for the treatment of cancer, has priced its initial public offering of stock to raise approximately $92 million. The company sold around 7.7 million shares priced at $12 each in the deal, with an option for the underwriters to purchase an additional one million shares. Founded in 2008, CytomX is developing what it calls "Probodies" that are able to site-direct the activity of antibodies. The company's focus is on providing patients with more effective and less toxic therapies for severe illnesses such as cancer and inflammatory diseases. CytomX is now trading on the Nasdaq exchange under the ticker symbol "CTMX."

o Saint Francis Foundation Awarded $2 Million Grant for Pain Clinic

San Francisco -- The Saint Francis Foundation has announced a $2 million financial commitment from philanthropist Phoebe Cowles to fund a pain management clinic.
The planned Phoebe Cowles Center for Comprehensive Pain Treatment will offer a "holistic" approach to pain management by bringing together in one clinic physicians, psychiatrists, nutritionists, as well as non-traditional forms of medicine, physical therapy and spiritual practice, according to the announcement. The Center will be led by Dr. Hoyman Hong and administrative director Roxanne Schulkin. Dr. Hong has been working with Phoebe Cowles over the past 12 years to help her manage a chronic pain condition.
