o Survey: More Corporate Boards Now Addressing Cybersecurity Risks

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Cybersecurity has risen to become one of the top boardroom issues at large companies, according to a new report by the Georgia Tech Information Security Center (GTISC) and supported by Forbes, the Financial Services Roundtable (FSR) and Palo Alto Networks. Nearly two-thirds of executives from companies surveyed said they're actively addressing computer and information security, up from 33% in 2012. In addition, 53% of boards have established a separate risk committee, up from 8% in 2008, to oversee cyber risk. Jody Westby, report author and CEO of Global Cyber Risk, said that for the first time, "directors and officers understand they have a fiduciary duty to protect the digital assets of their companies and are paying more than cursory attention to cyber risks." The survey polled board members and executives from Forbes Global 2000 companies.

The news comes days after the company announced plans to acquire Massachusetts-based Intronis, a provider of data protection technology to managed service providers. Financial terms of that deal, expected to close by the end of November, were not disclosed.
