o San Mateo-Based Collective Health Raises $81 Million in Third Round

San Mateo, Calif. -- Collective Health, a San Mateo-based developer of enterprise health insurance software, said on Tuesday it has raised $81 million in its third round of funding, co-led by new investor Google Ventures and returning backers NEA and Founders Fund. Maverick Capital, Redpoint Ventures and RRE Ventures also participated in the round, which the company will use to offer its employer health insurance tool to companies nationwide in 2016, expanding beyond California for the first time. It also plans to build out its staff, forge more relationships with partners and grow its customer base. Collective Health now has raised $119 million since its founding in 2013, including a $32 million round that closed in March. The company, which provides benefits managers and HR teams with a platform to communicate and deliver employer-sponsored health insurance benefits to employees and their families, said it is on track to process more than $2 billion in insurance claims in 2017.

Mountain View, Calif. -- ZeroStack, the Mountain View-based developer of a private cloud that converges compute, storage, networking and management services, said on Tuesday it has raised $16 million in its second round of funding, led by Formation 8. Previous backer Foundation Capital and board member Mark Leslie -- the former founder, chairman and CEO of Veritas Software -- also contributed. Shirish Sathaye, a general partner at Formation 8, will join the company's board of directors. "This round of financing will help us meet the overwhelming demand for [our technology]," said Ajay Gulati, the company's co-founder and CEO. o Santa Clara-Based LeanTaaS Raises $3 Million in First Round

Santa Clara, Calif. -- LeanTaaS, a Santa Clara-based developer of web-based healthcare analytics software, said on Tuesday it has raised $3 million in its first round of funding led by Sedgwick Claims Management Services. The company said it will use the proceeds to further develop and launch its iQueue healthcare product, which uses mathematical models to improve patient scheduling for hospitals and medical practices, resulting in reduced wait times and operating costs. It also plans to create a Labs division, focused on advanced algorithms for risk analytics. "Our healthcare business has grown 300% over the last two years because we are solving a core operations problem every hospital is facing -- doing more with less -- optimizing the use of their existing infrastructure, people, equipment and resources," said founder and CEO Mohan Giridharadas. LeanTaaS also has named Sanjeev Agrawal as the president of its Healthcare division. Agrawal, Google's first head of product marketing, previously served as the vice president of products at Tellme, CEO of Aloqa and founder of Collegefeed.

o Sunnyvale-Based PMC-Sierra Plans Talks with Microsemi on Takeover Bid

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- A day after receiving an unsolicited takeover bid from Microsemi, Sunnyvale-based big data semiconductor and software company PMC-Sierra on Tuesday said it plans to launch discussions with the Aliso Viejo-based chipmaker. Microsemi on Monday offered to buy PMC in a cash and stock deal valued at $2.4 billion, trumping a $2 billion offer made by Massachusetts-based Skyworks Solutions earlier this month. Under the proposal, PMC shareholders would receive $8.75 in cash and 0.07 of a share of Microsemi stock for each of their shares. While saying that its board hasn't yet determined whether Microsemi's bid is superior to Skyworks', PMC added in a statement that "failure to participate in discussions with Microsemi would reasonably be expected to be inconsistent with the board's fiduciary duties."
