o Western Digital to Acquire Milpitas-Based SanDisk for $19 Billion

Milpitas, Calif. -- Western Digital, the Irvine-based storage technology giant, said on Wednesday it will acquire Milpitas-based flash storage company SanDisk in a cash and stock deal valued at approximately $19 billion. Western will pay $86.50 a share under the deal, which has been approved by the boards of both companies and is expected to close after midyear. The company said the acquisition will double its addressable market and expand its participation in higher-growth segments. "The combined company will be ideally positioned to capture the growth opportunities created by the rapidly evolving storage industry," said Steve Milligan, the CEO of Western Digital. Milligan will continue to serve as CEO, and the company will remain headquartered in Irvine. Upon closing, Sanjay Mehrotra, the president and CEO of SanDisk, will join Western Digital's board of directors. The company expects to see annual synergies of $500 million within the first 18 months.

o San Francisco's adjust Raises $17 Million in New Funding Round

San Francisco -- adjust, a German business intelligence firm for mobile apps with U.S. headquarters in San Francisco, said on Wednesday it has raised $17 million in a new round of funding, increasing its total backing to $30 million since 2012. Highland Europe led the round, which the company will use to bolster product development and increase its presence among what it alls "underserved, high-potential" businesses. Christian Henschel, the co-founder and CEO of adjust, said his company hopes to become the go-to marketing tool for mobile-born businesses. "Our ambition is to become that essential part of their business intelligence and process data at scale, just as SAP broke out of its market scope decades ago," said Henschel. adjust currently processes more than 1 petabyte of mobile data a month, and its SDK recently surpassed 1.3 billion live instances in mobile devices.

o Rollout Lands $2 Million in First Round, Plans U.S. Expansion

San Francisco -- A month after debuting at TechCrunch Disrupt SF's Startup Battlefield, Rollout, the Israeli creator of a tool that lets mobile app developers instantly deploy code level changes to live apps without the need to release a new version, said on Wednesday it has landed $2 million in its first round of funding. Canaan Partners Israel (CPI) led the round, which also included participation from previous backers Plus Ventures, 2B Angels and Star Farm Ventures. Izhar Shay, managing general partner of CPI, will join the company's board of directors. Rollout will use the funds to further develop and commercialize its software development kit (SDK), which allows mobile developers to quickly debug, control and fix live apps in real time. The company also said it plans to expand its U.S. presence, including opening a new office in San Francisco next year. To date, more than 2,000 developers have used Rollout in more than 120 apps.

o San Francisco-Based Docker Acquires Tutum

San Francisco -- Docker, the San Francisco-based organization behind the open platform for distributed applications, said on Wednesday it has acquired New York-based Tutum and its cloud service to deploy and manage Dockerized applications into production on any infrastructure. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The company said that by integrating Tutum with Docker Hub, its cloud service for automating development team workflows, it will be able to offer a commercial tool for IT teams to collaboratively build, ship and run production-ready distributed apps. "We've been working with Docker from the beginning and we share a community with common goals, so more closely aligning our two organizations was a natural next step," said Borja Burgos-Galindo, the co-founder and CEO of Tutum.

o Virtustream to Relaunch as Joint Business of VMware, EMC

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Three months after its $1.2 billion acquisition by EMC, Maryland-based Virtustream now is set to be relaunched as the new cloud services business of EMC and Palo Alto-based VMware. The two companies said they plan to combine their respective cloud capabilities, along with Virtustream's existing cloud offerings, under the Virtustream brand. The new business will be jointly owned by VMware and EMC, and led by current Virtustream CEO Rodney Rogers. A definitive agreement between the companies has not yet been finalized. The news comes a week after computer giant Dell announced plans to acquire EMC for $67 billion. Focusing on enterprise-centric cloud services, the new Virtustream expects to generate several hundred millions dollars in recurring revenue in 2016, and expects to grow into a multi-billion business over the next several years. "Through Virtustream, we are addressing the changes in buying patterns and IT cloud operation models that we are seeing in the market," said Joe Tucci, the chairman and CEO of EMC.

o Yelp: No Truth to Parody Article About Suing "South Park"

San Francisco -- Yelp, the San Francisco-based local business review site, said on Wednesday it has no plans to sue the creators of Comedy Central show "South Park," after several reputable news outlets mistakenly reported the story, citing what they later learned was a satire news site. The San Francisco Business Times was one of several publications that originally published the news, but later removed it from its website. "South Park" lampooned Yelp on last week's episode, portraying the site's restaurant reviewers as having bloated senses of entitlement. The parody site, NBC.com.co, then ran a story Wednesday morning entitled, "Yelp Sues South Park For $10 Million Over Latest Episode." "The rumor about a Yelp lawsuit is entirely untrue and was started by a satire site that has received far too much media credibility," a Yelp spokesperson told the site Eater. "We have no interest in legal action against the fantastic team that makes the South Park magic happen."
