o San Francisco-Based Xamarin Acquires RoboVM

San Francisco -- Xamarin, the San Francisco-based creator of an enterprise mobile development platform, said it has acquired Sweden's RoboVM, developer of a platform that enables native iOS and Android development in Java. Financial terms of the deal, which comes two months after Xamarin secured $54 million in its third round of funding, were not disclosed. With the acquisition, the company now will be able to offer mobile developers platforms to create apps in Java and C#. "If Xamarin were to build a Java solution from scratch, it would look like RoboVM because they took the same native-first approach in their design," said Nat Friedman, the company's co-founder and CEO.

o New Industry Organization Hoping to Change Perception of Bitcoin

Washington, DC -- Hoping to remove some of the stigma from the digital currency known as bitcoin, the Chamber of Digital Commerce and Coin Center said they have formed a new organization called the Blockchain Alliance. The public-private forum said its goal is to help combat criminal activity involving bitcoin and the blockchain -- a public ledger of bitcoin transactions. "It's no secret that Bitcoin has perception issues, which is a roadblock to mainstream adoption," said Perianne Boring, president of the Chamber of Digital Commerce. "Having an open dialogue with law enforcement and policymakers will help reduce anxiety about this transformative technology." Jason Weinstein, a partner at Steptoe & Johnson and the former deputy assistant attorney general in charge of cybercrime investigations at the Department of Justice, will serve as director of the Washington, DC-based alliance. Other industry participants include MIT Media Lab's Digital Currency Initiative and developer Gavin Andresen, BitFinex, BitFury, BitGo, Bitnet, BitPay, BitStamp, Blockchain, Bloq, Circle, CoinBase, CoinX, ItBit, Kraken, Noble Markets and Xapo. "For the blockchain to thrive, the industry must work together to correct the misperception of bitcoin as the 'currency of criminals,'" said Weinstein.
