o San Francisco-Based Sighten Lands $3.5 Million in First Round

San Francisco -- Sighten, a San Francisco-based developer of solar software, said on Monday it has raised $3.5 million in its first round of funding, led by Obvious Ventures. The company said it will use the proceeds to further develop its platform and support its growing customer base in the solar industry. The platform includes tools designed to streamline origination, system design and sales and operations, as well as to automate ongoing reporting and analytics. "While we have seen significant advances in solar hardware, financing, and sales, software has grown more slowly and still involves horizontal tools and point solutions," said Andrew Beebe, the managing director of Obvious Ventures. "A complex industry like solar benefits from dedicated software which acts as a standard platform for all parties in the value chain." Beebe will join the company's board of directors.

o Amazon to Shutter Daily Deals Business in December

Seattle -- Following an industry trend away from the once-hot daily deals space, online retail giant Amazon said it will shutter its Amazon Local service, which competes with sites such as Groupon and LivingSocial. The site will continue to sell daily deals through Dec. 18, the company said, and the terms of vouchers already purchased won't be affected. Amazon, a major investor in LivingSocial, launched Local Deals in 2011. The market for daily deals from local merchants has shrunk significantly in the past couple of years, with LivingSocial beginning to focus more on selling goods and Google scrapping its Google Offers service last year.
