o Report: AOL Considering Name Change in Bid to Boost Brand

New York -- AOL is mulling the idea of changing its name in a bid to sharpen its corporate identity while distancing itself from its dial-up past, Business Insider reported. The company, which last summer was acquired by Verizon Communications in a deal worth $4.4 billion, is hoping to strengthen the connection between its umbrella brand and its wide array of businesses, such as TechCrunch, The Huffington Post and MapQuest. Allie Kline, AOL's chief marking officer (CMO), said the company plans to spend major resources on rebuilding its identity this year, no matter which identity that might be. "Is AOL the right brand? If it is, let's invest in it," Kline told Business Insider. "And if it isn't, let's figure out what is. But either way, not investing in the brand is not an option."
