Menlo Park, Calif. -- mPrest, a Menlo Park-based developer of monitoring and control software for the Internet of Things (IoT), said on Monday it has raised $20 million in its first round of funding, co-led by GE Ventures and equity crowdfunding platform OurCrowd. The company said it will use the proceeds to expand its international presence in the industrial and commercial markets. mPrest's software platform is designed to let clients connect any sensor at any time, then receive real-time situational awareness that lets them optimize operations automatically. Customers include defense and security bodies, electric and water utilities, smart cities and buildings, fleet management companies and other large organizations. For the past six years, mPrest has been a strategic partner with Rafael Advanced Defense Systems to supply the command and control system for the Iron Dome air-defense system.

o Berkeley-Based Powerhive Lands $20 Million in First Round

Berkeley, Calif. -- Powerhive, the Berkeley-based developer of a technology platform used to develop and operate renewable microgrids that supply electricity to off­grid communities in emerging markets, said on Monday it has landed $20 million in its first round of funding. Prelude Ventures led the round, which also includes participation from Caterpillar Ventures, Total Energy Ventures, Tao Capital Partners, Pi Investments and other private investors. The company said it will use the funds to expand into new markets in Africa and the Asia-­Pacific, as well as continue its growth in Kenya, where it has operated rural microgrids since 2012. The news comes a month after Powerhive received an $11 million equity investment in its flagship project, which will serve approximately 90,000 people in western Kenya.

o San Francisco-Based Wingz Lands $11 Million in Second Round

San Francisco -- Wingz, the San Francisco-based developer of a startup that lets users book private rides to the airport from individuals driving their personal cars, said on Monday it has raised $11 million in its second round of funding. Expedia, Altimeter Capital and Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff co-led the round. The company also has named Chris Brandon as its CEO. Founded in 2011, Wingz is the developer of a mobile app that automatically suggests a pickup time based on flight details, and matches riders with drivers who have the correct car size. More than 20,000 active customers use the Wingz app to book airport transportation supported by thousands of drivers. The service is currently available at most major airports across the western U.S. The company said it will use the funding to extend its U.S. footprint, as well as to bolster its technology platform. Brandon is the former managing partner at Brandon Consulting, and earlier served as the CFO of Tier 3, Medio Systems and Yapta.

o Mountain View-Based Jan Medical Raises $7.5 Million in Third Round

Mountain View, Calif. -- Jan Medical, the Mountain View-based developer of a portable brain sensing system designed to help diagnose abnormal neurological conditions such as concussion and stroke, said on Monday it has raised $7.5 million in its third round of funding from Brainlab. The company said it will use the proceeds to complete ongoing clinical trials and file regulatory paperwork for its BrainPulse product. Brainlab, a German developer of software-driven medical technology, also will collaborate with the company as part of the deal, helping it complete R&D and clear regulatory hurdles. Ken Bruener, Brainlab's vice president of marketing and business development, will become join the company's board of directors. Jan's BrainPulse device captures a physiological signal that to measure vasculature and brain tissue conditions. Data from the device has been shown to detect sports-related concussions in a clinical trial at Stanford University.

o San Jose-Based GigOptix Leads Funding Round for Anagog

San Jose, Calif. -- GigOptix, a San Jose-based supplier of high-speed semiconductor components, said on Monday it has led the first round of funding for Israel-based Anagog, developer of a crowdsourced parking network. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Several other investors, including the founding partner of Chinese venture capital firm Ivy Capital, also participated. Avi Katz, the founder, chairman and CEO of GigOptix, will join the company's board of directors. Anagog's mobility status software development kit can detect a user's real-time mobility status. It can tell, for example, if users are currently walking, driving at home or at work, and detect automatically when and where they parked their car, if they're riding a bus or entering or exiting a predefined zone. The technology can enable an array of context-aware apps and services. "We plan to further expand our reach to more markets, and turn our global network to the widest and strongest of its kind worldwide," said CEO Ofer Tziperman.
