San Francisco -- Wireless carrier Verizon Wireless said it has made a $70 million investment over nearly two years to bolster its network throughout the Bay Area in preparation for Super Bowl 50. The company said it has more than tripled its 4G LTE wireless data network capacity in key areas, bolstering performance in more than 10 major areas from San Francisco to Santa Clara, along with the three major area airports and several hotels. Among the improvements, Verizon said it has built 16 new area cell sites, installed 75 small cells and deployed for the first time a patented antenna system to reach the lower stadium seats at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. "We do this because we anticipate that this will be the most 'shared' Super Bowl," said Brian Mecum, vice president of network for Verizon Wireless.
