o Palo Alto-Based Branch Metrics Raises $35 Million in Second Round

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Branch Metrics, a Palo Alto-based developer of deep linking tools for app developers and marketers, said on Wednesday it has raised $35 million in its second round of funding, led by new investor Founders Fund. Previous backers New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Pejman Mar Ventures, Cowboy Ventures, Zach Coelius and Ben Narasin, as well as new investor Madrona Venture Group, also participated. Branch, which now has raised $53 million since its inception, said it will use the latest funds to accelerate the adoption of its deep linking technology, as well as to create new app and app content discovery products. Over the past year, the company has worked with clients such as Pinterest, Redfin, HotelTonight, Buzzfeed and Jet to help make their app content more easily shared and discovered. When clicked, deep links take users directly to the correct content for an installed app, and, if the app is not installed, will take them to the right place even after a detour through an app store. Scott Nolan, a partner at Founders Fund, will join the company's board of directors.

Riverbed said the acquisition will expand and accelerate Riverbed's delivery of SD-WAN tools to customers, while also creating significant new growth opportunities. o Nexstar to Acquire KRON-Owner Media General After Meredith Backs Out

Richmond, Va. -- Following months of negotiations, Texas-based Nexstar Broadcasting Group said on Wednesday it will acquire Virginia-based Media General, which owns or operates 71 television stations, including San Francisco's KRON, in a deal valued at about $2.2 billion. Though the two sides agreed to terms earlier this month, the deal couldn't move forward until Iowa-based Meredith Corp. terminated its planned merger with Media General, announced in September. Media General will pay that company a $60 million termination fee. Under the new deal, Nexstar will pay $10.55 a share in cash and 0.125 of a share in stock, plus net cash proceeds from the sale of Media General's spectrum in the FCC's upcoming spectrum auction. The company plans to change its name to Nexstar Media Group upon the completion of the transaction, expected late in the third quarter or early in the fourth. Nexstar shareholders will own approximately 66% of the combined company's stock, with Media General's shareholders holding the remainder. Nexstar Media Group's portfolio will include 171 television stations in 100 markets, as well as a large digital media operation.
