o Mountain View-Based BloomReach Lands $56 Million in Fourth Round

Mountain View, Calif. -- BloomReach, the Mountain View-based developer of a cloud personalization platform, said on Friday it has raised $56 million in its fourth round of funding. Investors included Bain Capital Ventures, Battery Ventures, Lightspeed Ventures, New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and Salesforce Ventures. Marcus Ryu, the co-founder and CEO of Guidewire Software, will join the company's board of directors. BloomReach's personalization platform is designed to match and personalize content based on what and how people are searching. The goal is to make products more discoverable and relevant for clients such as Neiman Marcus, Sears Outlet, Staples, Drugstore.com and Williams-Sonoma. The company, which captures data from approximately 20.5% of all U.S. e-commerce and counts more than 175 customers, said it will use the funds to bolster its big-data technology and scale its business globally. It also plans to increase its headcount, which now stands at more than 250.

San Francisco -- Lever, the San Francisco-based developer of applicant tracking software designed to help clients streamline the hiring process, said it has raised $20 million in its second round of funding, led by Scale Venture Partners. Previous backers Matrix Partners and Index Ventures also participated. Founded in 2012, Lever aims to help fast-growing companies reduce the challenges associated with hiring by allowing recruiters to better keep track of candidates and share them with hiring managers. Clients include Lyft, Change.org, Eventbrite, Netflix, Quora, Zuora and Reddit.

o Mountain View-Based Gristore Raises $19 Million, Names New Chairman

Mountain View, Calif. -- Gridstore, a Mountain View-based developer of hyper-converged all-flash infrastructure appliances, said it has raised $19 million in a new round of funding, led by Atlantic Bridge Capital. Previous backers Acero Capital, GGV Capital and ONSET Ventures also participated in the round, which the company will use to expand its international geographic coverage, bolster partner recruitment programs and grow its sales teams and engineering and product development initiatives. Gridstore also has named Nariman Teymourian as its new chairman and Kevin Dillon, a general partner of Atlantic Bridge Capital, as a board member. Teymourian most recently was a senior vice president and general manager at HPE, and previously was the CEO of Gale Technologies. In addition, the company has named James Thomason as chief strategy officer, Phillip Lavery as vice president of sales in the Americas and Kevin Rains as chief financial officer (CFO). o Cupertino-Based Apple Acquires San Francisco's LearnSprout

Cupertino, Calif. -- Apple has acquired San Francisco-based education-technology startup LearnSprout, a developer of software designed to help educators analyze and better understand student data, Bloomberg reported. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition reportedly will help Cupertino-based Apple develop new educational tools for the iPad. LearnSprout, which has raised about $4.7 million in venture capital, said that more than 2,500 schools across 42 states currently use its platform to better understand student data.

The goal of the program is to encourage entrepreneurs and startups to develop in the Capital Region of California. (San Francisco) San Francisco-based World Golf Tour (WGT), developer of a web and mobile golf game with more than 14 million players worldwide, said it has been acquired by Dallas-based Topgolf Entertainment Group (TEG).
