o Los Gatos-Based Infogain Acquires IT Operations of Blue Star Infotech

Los Gatos, Calif. -- Infogain, a Los Gatos-based provider of business and IT consulting services, said on Monday it has completed its acquisition of the IT operations of India-based Blue Star Infotech. Financial terms of the deal, first announced in September, were not disclosed. Infogain said the acquisition will expand its digital transformation offerings, particularly in the areas of cloud, mobility, SAP and analytics. The combined company will have annual revenue of more than $150 million, nearly 4,000 employees and eight delivery locations globally. Sunil Bhatia, the CEO and managing director of Blue Star Infotech, will join Infogain as its CEO designate, taking over as CEO on July 1, when Kapil Nanda transitions to executive chairman.

o Carlyle Group Completes $7.4 Billion Acquisition of Veritas

Mountain View, Calif. -- The Carlyle Group said it has completed its $7.4 billion acquisition of information management system provider Veritas from Mountain View-based Symantec. The deal was first announced in August. Carlyle has named Bill Coleman and Bill Krause as the new CEO and chairman, respectively, of Veritas. "I am thrilled with the possibilities for innovation and client service that we now have as a stand-alone company," said Coleman. Meanwhile, Michael Brown, Symantec's president and CEO, said the sale gives his company "the increased financial flexibility to maximize shareholder value through returning significant capital to shareholders and to consider acquisition opportunities." Symantec said it explored a variety of alternatives for Veritas, a company it merged with in 2005 in a deal valued at $13.5 billion. The company in late 2014 unveiled plans to separate Veritas into an independent publicly traded company.

o San Francisco-Based Kraken Raises Second Round of Funding

San Francisco -- Kraken, a San Francisco-based bitcoin exchange, said on Monday it has landed an unspecified amount in its second round of funding, led by Japanese venture capital firm SBI Investment. "It's a fantastic first step toward completing Series B, which will ultimately enable us to scale our business worldwide," said CEO Jesse Powell. The news comes less than two weeks after Kraken announced the acquisition of both Coinsetter and Cavirtex, a pair of North American bitcoin exchanged. Kraken previously raised $5 million in its first round, which closed in early 2014.

o EA Madden 16 Predicts Carolina 24-20 Win Over Denver in Super Bowl

Redwood City, Calif. -- Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers will defeat Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos, 24-20, in Sunday's Super Bowl 50, according to a simulation of the game conducted by Redwood City-based Electronic Arts using its Madden NFL 16 game. The annual simulation has correctly called nine of the past 12 championships. Last year's prediction not only correctly forecast the final score, but also accurately called that Tom Brady would win the Super Bowl MVP award, that New England would overcome a 10-point third quarter deficit and that Julian Edelman would score the deciding touchdown. This time around, EA said that Newton will claim the Super Bowl MVP Award, completing 19 of 26 passes for 216 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Manning will completed 21 of 37 passes for Denver, tallying 241 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

o Annual Semiconductor Sales Fall Just Shy of 2014 Record Totals

Washington, DC -- The global semiconductor industry posted sales of $335.2 billion in 2015, a slight decrease from the year before, according to a new report from the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). Sales fell 0.2% shy of 2014 totals, which were the highest on record. "Despite formidable headwinds, the global semiconductor industry posted solid sales in 2015, although falling just short of the record total from 2014," said John Neuffer, president and CEO of the SIA. "Factors that limited more robust sales in 2015 include softening demand, the strength of the dollar and normal market trends and cyclicality. In spite of these challenges, modest market growth is projected for 2016."
