Redwood City, Calif. -- Shutterfly, the Redwood City-based provider of personalized photo products and services, has named Amazon executive Christopher North as its new president and CEO, effective May 31. He will succeed interim CEO Phil Marineau, who will continue as chairman. North has served as the managing director of Amazon UK since 2011, and earlier held senior leadership roles with Phaidon Press and HarperCollins Publishers. "His outstanding track record at one of the most successful e-commerce companies in the world makes him an incredible asset to this organization," said Marineau. "We believe this is the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Shutterfly."

o Menlo Park-Based Spirox Raises $45 Million in Third Round

Menlo Park, Calif. -- Spirox, a Menlo Park-based medical device company developing minimally invasive technologies for patients with nasal obstruction, said it has raised $45 million in its third round of funding, led by KKR. New investor HealthQuest Capital and previous backers Aisling Capital, Aperture Venture Partners and Venrock also participated. Jim Momtazee, a KKR member and head of the firm's healthcare investing team, will join the company's board of directors. Spirox is developing a minimally invasive system to be used by Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) physicians and plastic surgeons to treat patients with nasal obstruction, helping them to more easily breathe.

Redwood City, Calif. -- Kenandy, the Redwood City-based developer of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) tool built on the Salesforce platform, said it has raised a new round of funding which increases its total backing to more than $55 million. Participants included Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB), Lightspeed Venture Partners, Salesforce Ventures and Wilson Sonsini Ventures, as well as Kenandy founder Sandra Kurtzig. The company also has named Marie Amoruso Jackson as its chief marketing officer (CMO) and appointed Rod Butters as its chief technology officer (CTO) and president of products and services.

o San Francisco's Polaris, Toba Co-Lead $6.5M Round for FloQast

San Francisco -- Polaris Partners, a Boston-based venture capital firm with West Coast headquarters in San Francisco, and San Francisco-based Toba Capital have co-led a new $6.5 million first round of funding for FloQast, a Los Angeles-based developer of month-end closing software for accountants. Gary Swart, a partner at Polaris Partners and former CEO of oDesk, has joined the company's board of directors. FloQast develops cloud-based software that connects the applications accountants use to help organize, collaborate and close the books faster. "FloQast allows our clients to continue working with Excel while also linking to the ERP to automate the tie-out and reconciliation process," said co-founder and CEO Mike Whitmire.

o Survey: San Francisco CFO's Expect Increased Hiring Over Next Six Months

San Francisco -- San Francisco executives expect professional-level hiring to increase in the next six months, according to a newly released forecast by Robert Half. All told, 16% of CFOs surveyed expect their companies to create new jobs, up 3% from the previous six months, and another 73% plan to hire only for open roles. "Highly skilled candidates continue to be in great demand throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, with tenured professionals receiving multiple job offers, particularly in technology, financial services and healthcare," said Sharon Black, senior district president for Robert Half in the San Francisco Bay Area. "San Francisco ranked as a top city for career-oriented professionals, according to the recently released Robert Half and Economist Intelligence Unit study. This is a testament to the Bay Area truly being a global financial mecca with abundant career opportunities for top talent." In addition, 91% of executives said they were somewhat or very confident in their company's prospects for growth in the next six months.
