San Jose, Calif. -- Vasona Networks, a San Jose-based developer of platforms for mobile network capacity, resource management and edge intelligence, said on Wednesday it has raised $14.6 million in its third round of funding. Bessemer Venture Partners, New Venture Partners and NexStar Partners took part in the round, which increases the company's total backing to $48 million. The company said the funds will help support recent deployments by mobile network operators in four large cities, including by Telefónica UK in its London O2 system, and drive ongoing research and development efforts. Vasona's products are designed to help mobile operators improve network performance. San Jose, Calif. -- GigOptix, a San Jose-based supplier of semiconductor communications components, said on Wednesday it has completed its $54 million acquisition of Milpitas-based Magnum Semiconductor, changing its name to GigPeak upon closing. The deal was first announced on Monday. Magnum provides silicon integrated circuits, SoCs, software and intellectual property to the professional video broadcast and Internet of Things camera markets. GigOptix said the acquisition will expand its addressable market from approximately $1 billion to $5 billion by adding the broadcasting, IoT and consumer markets. Prosecutors said that Minh Nguyen broke into the couple's townhouse last January and shot Corey Mattison, WJLA in Washington, DC reported. He later pleaded "no contest" to charges of first-degree murder and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. In 2002, Nguyen teamed with Napster co-founder Sean Parker and two Stanford University engineering students to launch Plaxo, an online address box and social networking service acquired by Comcast in 2008.
