o San Francisco-Based Eaze Raises $13 Million in Second Round
San Francisco -- Eaze, a San Francisco-based developer of on-demand medical marijuana technology, said on Monday it has raised $13 million in its second round of funding, led by Fresh VC. DCM Ventures, Tusk Ventures, Winklevoss Capital and Rose Capital also took part in the round, which increased the company's total backing to more than $25 million. Eaze said it will use the proceeds to accelerate product development, grow its staff and expand its technology to additional markets. The company's technology is designed to connect patients with dispensaries, then enable delivery in less than 20 minutes. For patients in need of a medical marijuana recommendations, EazeMD connects California residents with board-certified doctors to receive an evaluation through its mobile and online platforms. Since launching in mid-2014, the company has powered on-demand dispensary deliveries to hundreds of thousands of medical marijuana patients in nearly 100 California cities. "Adult use [of marijuana] is on the precipice of becoming legal in California, the largest marijuana market in the United States," said CEO Keith McCarty. "[We] are poised to accelerate as the market hits an inflection point."

o San Francisco-Based Benchling Lands $7 Million in New Funding
San Francisco -- Benchling, a San Francisco-based developer of life sciences R&D software, said on Monday it has landed $7 million in a new round of funding, led by Thrive Capital. Andreessen Horowitz and several individuals also participated in the round, which increased the company's total backing to more than $13 million. Four-year-old Benchling said it plans to use the new funding to expand scientific operations, broaden development across more therapeutic areas and further expand its platform, including the release of a new product that bridges structured and unstructured scientific data. "The industry mostly runs on paper, spreadsheets and otherwise clunky and outdated software that's designed with little scientist input," said founder and CEO Sajith Wickramasekara. "Benchling develops its software with real scientist workflows in mind, so that scientists' tools can streamline their research rather than impede it." Benchling currently provides its cloud-based platform to more than 40,000 academic and industry scientists.

The firm said its Agility Fund will focus on opportunities that "may be too small for our main funds," including investments of under $50 million. Emeryville, Calif. -- Art.com, the Emeryville-based developer of an online destination for wall art and décor, on Monday named former Lyft executive Kira Wampler as its new CEO. She succeeds Chuck Kurth, who will return to his role as chief financial officer (CFO) after serving as interim CEO. Wampler most recently served as the chief marketing officer (CMO) at rideshare service Lyft, where she oversaw the company's expansion from 65 cities in March 2015 to more than 200 today. She also has been the CMO of online residential real estate site Trulia.
