o Palo Alto-Based Wavefront Raises $52 Million in Second Round

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Wavefront, the Palo Alto-based provider of a metrics monitoring service for cloud and modern application environments, said on Tuesday it has raised $52 million in its second round of funding. Previous backers Sequoia Capital and Sutter Hill Ventures joined new investor Tenaya Capital in the round, which the company will use to accelerate research and development, expand its product offerings and bolster its sales, marketing and support operations across all global regions. The funding continues a strong year for Wavefront, which has seen its valuation jump fourfold since raising its first round of funding in February. "We surpassed key milestones this past year, so it became the ideal time to raise this round," said Pete Cittadini, the company's president and CEO. Clients include Workday, Box, Lyft, Microsoft, Intuit and Groupon.

o Menlo Park-Based KPCB Increases Investment in Mobcrush

Menlo Park, Calif. -- Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers (KPCB), the Menlo Park-based venture capital firm, said on Tuesday it has increased its investment in Santa Monica-based Mobcrush, developer of a mobile-first live streaming app and community for gamers, as part of the company's new $20 million second round. Evolution Media led the round, which increased the two-year-old company's total funding to $35.9 million. KPCB led the company's first round. Mobcrush said it will use the proceeds to hire more engineers and continue building its position in mobile-first game streaming and eSports. "This additional investment will enable us to exponentially expand our community of content producers and viewers globally," said CEO Royce Disini.

o Santa Clara-Based Baffle Lands $3 Million in New Funding Round

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Baffle, the Santa Clara-based developer of an end-to-end data encryption platform, said on Tuesday it has landed $3 million in a new round of funding, led by True Ventures. Engineering Capital also participated in the round, which came as the company also announced an early access program for its new end-to-end encryption software as a service. Baffle said its technology makes data breaches irrelevant by keeping data encrypted, not only when it is stored on-premise or in the cloud, but also when it is being processed by databases and applications. "Since data breaches are so commonplace today, we have to anticipate them," said Puneet Agarwal, a partner at True Ventures. "Solving this problem requires a totally different approach to data encryption."

o SurveyMonkey Launches Real-Time Electoral College Polling Map

Palo Alto, Calif. -- SurveyMonkey, the Palo Alto-based developer of an online survey platform, on Tuesday released a new interactive Electoral College map showing who is leading the presidential race in all 50 states based on the company's real-time voter polling. Map visitors can see where Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump stand in each state, broken down by key demographics including age, sex, race and income. They then can create their own Electoral College predictions to share on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. "This adds a new dimension to professional estimates, offering a powerful alternative to assumption-laden models based on relatively few interviews and cross-poll averages," said Jon Cohen, SurveyMonkey's chief research officer. "Today, for the first time, we can allow voters to view large-scale, single-source data to create their own predictive analyses under almost any scenario they want to test."

o BoltBus Launches Free On-Board Entertainment System

Dallas -- Intercity bus service BoltBus said on Tuesday it has launched a free on-board entertainment system, which allows passengers to watch movies and TV shows, play games, surf the web and read news from their own Wi-Fi-enabled devices. The company, a division of Greyhound Lines, said it will add new movies each month, with video channels updated daily and news delivered on the hour. Movies will be available 90 days after their theatrical release, before they're available via on-demand and DVD. BoltBus said it also has increased bandwidth for its free Wi-Fi service, and launched a faster premium Internet option for a fee. The new system is already fully rolled out in all of the California and Pacific Northwest markets, and is currently rolling out to the rest of the company's markets in the Northeast.
