o San Francisco-Based ODG Raises $58 Million for Smartglasses

San Francisco -- Osterhout Design Group (ODG), a San Francisco-based developer and manufacturer of mobile AR/VR smartglasses, said on Thursday it has raised $58 million in its first round of funding. Shenzhen O-film Tech, Vanfund Urban Investment & Development and several individual investors took part in the round, which began in January with an investment from 21st Century Fox. The company said it will sue the proceeds to bolster its production capabilities, complete new products -- be introduced at CES '17 -- expand its patent portfolio and significantly grow its team worldwide. "For eight years, we've taken a very systematic approach to designing and refining our smartglasses for specific applications from the U.S. government, industry and enterprise customers in a wide variety of markets, and that will not change," said CEO Ralph Osterhout. "This funding round, our first ever, ensures we are well positioned to introduce our latest designs at CES '17, which will likely form the largest category of smartglasses worldwide."

o Foster City-Based Visa to Acquire CardinalCommerce

Foster City, Calif. -- Visa, the Foster City-based credit card giant, said on Thursday it will acquire CardinalCommerce, a developer of e-commerce payment authentication technology. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Visa said the acquisition will allow it to offer more secure, seamless payments, whether made through a browser, mobile app or connected device. Cardinal will continue to operate as a subsidiary of Visa, and its authentication platform will continue to support a broad range of payment brands and partners across the industry. Co-founders Tim Sherwin and Chandra Balasubramanian will remain as leaders of the Cardinal team, based in Ohio. Mark Nelsen, the senior vice president of risk and authentication products at Visa, said the combination will "bring added security to online transactions, reduce fraud and support digital commerce which is the fastest growing commerce segment today."

o San Francisco-Based Dashbot Lands $2 Million in Seed Funding

San Francisco -- Dashbot, the San Francisco-based developer of a bot analytics platform, said on Thursday it has raised $2 million in a round of seed funding round, led by ff Venture Capital. Bessemer Venture Partners, Samsung Accelerator, Scrum Ventures, Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments and Rembrandt Ventures also participated. The company said it will use the proceeds to expand its team and product offerings, as well as provide additional native support for more platforms and increase user acquisition and marketing efforts. Launched six months ago, Dashbot has over 1,100 bots on the platform and has processed more than 200 million messages. The company's technology is designed to provide bot-specific analytics and tools to enable brands and developers to increase user acquisition, engagement and monetization.

As part of the effort, the Warriors and Accenture will prototype and test technology at Oracle Arena for potential use in Chase Center.
