o Menlo Park-Based Bullpen Capital Closes New $75 Million Fund

Menlo Park, Calif. -- Bullpen Capital, a Menlo Park-based venture capital firm focused on tech startups between seed and Series A rounds, said on Friday it has closed a new $75 million investment fund, the third since its inception in 2010. The fund, known as Bullpen III, included participation from Greenspring Associates, Venture Investment Associates (VIA), Oberlin College and other institutional and individual investors. "Bullpen seeks out startups that have excellent early operating metrics but that are frequently overlooked by the rest of the venture ecosystem," said Paul Martino, a general partner. "Many Bullpen companies are in under-invested categories and geographies or have founders with unusual backgrounds." Bullpen has invested in more than 50 companies, including Fanduel, Ipsy, SpotHero, Namely, Classy and AirMap.

o Online Donations on "Giving Tuesday" Rise 20% Over 2015 Levels

Charleston, S.C. -- Online charitable donations on "Giving Tuesday" increased 20% over 2015 levels, according to Blackbaud, whose systems process a majority of online donations made in the U.S. The company said it processed more than $47.7 million from over 6,700 organizations that received at least one online donation on the day. "2016 is the biggest year yet for #GivingTuesday," said Steve MacLaughlin, Blackbaud's vice president of data and analytics. "As we predicted, the movement continues to drive year-over-year growth. The positive trends displayed in our data proves the strength of the holiday's message as more donors embrace the simplicity of using smartphone technology to contribute. About 22% of donations were made online and we expect that number to grow as time goes on." Since the inception of the one-day campaign in 2012, online giving has frown by 317%.
