o San Francisco-Based Light Polymers Raises $24.3 Million in First Round

San Francisco -- Light Polymers, a San Francisco-based nanochemistry startup focused on liquid crystals for flat panel displays, LED lighting, advanced building materials and biomedical applications, said on Friday it has raised $24.3 million in its first round of funding. Identities of the investors were not disclosed. The company said it will use the proceeds to bolster research and development and commercialization activities for its flexible and foldable OLED display chemistry, as well as for a planned acquisition. "We will be able to scale up the chemistry and film production for our breakthrough 35 micron-thin OLED circular polarizer solution and eventually reach under 10 microns for wearables, smartphones, tablets and eventually notebook, monitors and HDTV's," said Marc McConnaughey, the company's president and CEO. Four-year-old Light Polymers said its OLED chemistry is now in trial stages with a number of potential commercialization partners.

o Survey: Companies Cautious About Adopting New Technology

Menlo Park, Calif. -- While consumers are willing to wait in long lines to get their hands on the latest technologies, businesses are less eager, according to new research from Robert Half Technology and The Creative Group. Their new survey found that just 17% of chief information officers (CIOs) and 10% of advertising and marketing executives said their companies are early adopters of technology. Still, nearly all (94%) technology executives and three-quarters of creative executives agreed it's at least somewhat important for leaders in their department to try out technical innovations. "While technology is meant to make business processes easier, faster and more effective, it can be overwhelming for companies to know which tools and systems to invest in," said John Reed, senior executive director of Robert Half Technology. "Most organizations take a measured approach to implementing new technologies, given the considerable costs, training and potential productivity loss involved."
